“#How to Enable Chrome OS\u2019 Android Phone Hub Right Now”<\/strong><\/p>\n

Chrome OS is preparing a feature called \u201cPhone Hub\u201d that links your Android device to your Chromebook. While we wait for the feature to become stable, you can try it out right now.<\/p>\n

The idea behind Chrome OS\u2019 \u201cPhone Hub\u201d is similar to Microsoft\u2019s \u201cYour Phone\u201d app<\/a> for Windows 10. You can use it to get notifications from your phone on your Chromebook, control the Android device, and continue scrolling through Chrome tabs that were open on your smartphone.<\/p>\n

The Phone Hub will eventually be available by default for everyone, but it\u2019s currently in testing. You can try it out for yourself by enabling it via a Chrome flag. You\u2019ll need to be running Chrome OS version 89 (on any channel) to do this.<\/p>\n

Warning:<\/strong> These features are not available to everyone for a reason. They may not work correctly and they can negatively impact your browser\u2019s performance. Enable flags at your own risk.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

On your Chromebook, open a browser window and navigate to chrome:\/\/flags#enable-phone-hub<\/code>.<\/p>\n

Select the drop-down menu for \u201cEnable Phone Hub\u201d and switch it to \u201cEnabled.\u201d<\/p>\n

Click the blue \u201cRestart\u201d button to apply the changes.<\/p>\n

Next, we\u2019ll connect your Android phone in the Settings menu.\u00a0Click the clock on your Chromebook\u2019s on-screen Shelf to bring up the Quick Settings panel. Select the gear icon to open the Settings.<\/p>\n

Go to the \u201cConnected Devices\u201d tab of the Settings.<\/p>\n

You\u2019ll see \u201cAndroid Phone\u201d listed here. Click the \u201cSet Up\u201d button.<\/p>\n

A new window will open with a drop-down menu that lists the active Android devices associated with your Google account. Select the one you want to use and click \u201cAccept & Continue.\u201d<\/p>\n

Enter the password for your Google account and click \u201cDone.\u201d<\/p>\n

The device should now be connected! Click \u201cDone\u201d to return to the Settings.<\/p>\n

Now you can click your phone\u2019s name from the \u201cConnected Devices\u201d section.<\/p>\n

Here are all the settings that pertain to your connected Android device. Make sure that \u201cPhone Hub\u201d is toggled on.<\/p>\n

You\u2019ll notice that a phone icon has appeared on your Chromebook\u2019s Shelf. Click it to open the Phone Hub.<\/p>\n

The Phone Hub shows your last two Chrome tabs, a few toggles for the connected device (including the option to enable the hotspot, silence your phone, or locate the handset), and Wi-Fi and battery status.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s all there is to it. The Phone Hub may change before it\u2019s \u201cofficially\u201d launched, but it works pretty well in its current state. It\u2019s great to see Google bringing Chrome OS and Android closer together.<\/p>\n
