\n Mayor Bill de Blasio on Wednesday ripped protesters who vandalized buildings in Lower Manhattan \u2014 including one named after the city\u2019s first and only black mayor, David Dinkins \u2014 saying they\u2019re \u201cdegrading their own movement.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cA protester who says vile nasty things to a police officer is degrading their own movement,\u201d said de Blasio, who worked in the Dinkins administration.<\/p>\n

\u201cA protester who writes nasty, violent phrases on a public building is degrading their own movement \u2014 especially a public building named after our first African-American mayor.<\/p>\n

\u201cI mean, get it together people. If\u00a0you want to protest for change, do it in a peaceful, respectful manner.\u201d<\/p>\n

Vandals have scrawled anti-cop graffiti on several city buildings \u2014 including 31 Chambers St., which houses Manhattan surrogate\u2019s court and other city agencies, and 1 Centre St., a massive 40-foot structure also known as the David N. Dinkins Municipal Building.<\/p>\n

Anti-cop vitriol, including \u201cF\u2013k 12\u201d and \u201cACAB,\u201d the acronym for \u201call cops are bastards,\u201d was spray-painted in black at 1 Centre around a plaque bearing Dinkins\u2019 name.<\/p>\n

Dinkins, 92, remains the city\u2019s first and only black mayor, serving one term from 1990 to 1993.<\/p>\n

De Blasio renamed 1 Centre St. after his former boss in 2015.<\/p>\n
