New York Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand app<\/a>ears to be giving Gov. Andrew Cuomo a long leash on the sexual harassment allegations leveled against him by a former aide \u2014 despite once leading the charge that led to then-Sen. Al Franken\u2019s resignation over similar claims.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have not read her allegations or her post, her Medium post,\u201d Gillibrand told reporters on a call Thursday afternoon \u2014 a day after Cuomo accuser Lindsey Boylan came forward igniting widespread media<\/a> coverage. <\/p>\n

\u201cBut as I said, everyone has a right to be able to come forward, speak their truth, and be heard. And that\u2019s true for her and that\u2019s also true for Gov. Cuomo.\u201d<\/p>\n

In 2017, Gillibrand, a 2020 Democratic presidential candidate, quickly led a full-throated condemnation of her colleague Franken as he faced mounting allegations of sexual harassment from multiple women.<\/p>\n

\u201cEnough is enough,\u201d Gillibrand said at the time.<\/p>\n

On Facebook, she said, \u201cI believe it would be better for our country if he sent a clear message that any kind of mistreatment of women in our society isn\u2019t acceptable by stepping aside to let someone else serve.\u201d<\/p>\n

That led to other Senate Democrats calling for Franken\u2019s ouster. <\/p>\n

The outspoken lawmaker, author and former \u201cSNL\u201d mainstay, resigned shortly after \u2014 but refused to apologize for his alleged misconduct.<\/p>\n

Regarding Cuomo \u2014 who is accused of kissing his then-aide Boylan on the lips and asking her to play \u201cstrip<\/a> poker\u201d in 2018 \u2014 Gillibrand said it was \u201cup to\u201d the state legislature to conduct a probe.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know the investigative processes for the state government,\u201d she said. \u201cI have focused very intensely on the investigative standards here in the Senate, as well as for the House.\u201d<\/p>\n

Boylan detailed her allegations in a 1,700-word essay posted on Medium.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
