A new deepfake <strong>Tom Cruise<\/strong> <strong>TikTok<\/strong> account has a lot of people fearing for the state of our reality! Um, WHAT??<\/p>\n<p>No, we\u2019re not being dramatic. Have you h<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ened to see the latest videos of Tom Cruise golfing, talking to the camera, or doing a magic trick? Well, it seems those are not actually the <em>Mission Impossible<\/em> lead at all, but a deepfake, defined as:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cA video of a person in which their face or body has been digitally altered so that they appear to be someone else, typically used maliciously or to spread false information.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Related: Tom Cruise\u2019s COVID Rant Has Remaining\u00a0<em>M:I7\u00a0<\/em>Crew \u2018Walking On Eggshells\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The account (@deepTomCruise), which posted its first video Tuesday, has already gained over 228K followers and is close to a million likes on the popular <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">social media<\/a> app. But while the person looks and talks a lot like the Hollywood A-lister, it\u2019s likely just an impersonator! One <strong>Twitter<\/strong> user went sleuthing and claimed to have discovered the man behind one of the most insane pranks yet:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cFound the deepfake tom cruise guy. It\u2019s @milesfisher, an actor and coffee subscription executive, and a Tom Cruise impersonator, with a deepfake over him. His personal website links to the fake Tom Cruise tiktok that\u2019s going around.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>While the link appears to be removed from his website now, after a quick look at the actor\u2019s social media, we noticed a similar move when the performer made a parody video of the <strong>Oscar<\/strong> nominee <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=5Btb8gLy3-E\">running for president in 2019<\/a>. So why are these TikTok\u2019s blowing up the internet today when that video didn\u2019t freak everyone out quite as much? The answer might concern you. Every public figure should just be on there with a verified account \u2013 even if they don\u2019t want to make content \u2013 to make it easier to identify their fakes. Here\u2019s Tom Cruise: <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/xoSJt1bvVR\">pic.twitter.com\/xoSJt1bvVR<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 lauren white (@laurenmwhite) <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/laurenmwhite\/status\/1364813376644403200?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 25, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>A few more worried viewers added:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cJust had a flashback to a video I saw last night where it talked about how that virtual reality version of tom cruise on tiktok is actually terrifying because it could severely mess with the perception of reality in the future and now I\u2019m spiraling in my office\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDon\u2019t RT the Tom Cruise deepfake. It\u2019s convincing but still fake. This <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/technology\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"Technology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">technology<\/a> is dangerous and will be abused by bad actors. I don\u2019t trust <strong>Facebook<\/strong>, <strong>Instagram<\/strong>, Twitter, TikTok, or other social media platforms to identify, flag, and take them down as quickly as they should.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Related: Leah Remini Thinks Tom Cruise\u2019s Leaked Rant Was FAKE?!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>And if you thought <strong>Trump<\/strong>\u2019s \u201cfake <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a>\u201d motto was as bad as things could get for journalism and media, this person makes another incredibly valid point about a real problem with the use of deepfakes, writing:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cYou know, very soon now, Republicans will start claiming their embarrassing, corrupt recordings were deep fakes. It\u2019s literally right around the corner. Another misinformation pitfall to contend with. <strong>Fox<\/strong> will start airing deep fakes of Democrats as real news, etc. Get ready.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Oh, god. Can\u2019t you totally see that happening, though?? No more trusting anyone these days!! If you thought spam calls were bad, imagine fake FaceTime\u2019s, like this commenter did:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cHave a look at this to convince yourself that the era of video-being-evidence is over.
