For people fatigued with quarantine amid\u00a0the COVID-19 pandemic,\u00a0a new study from Germany<\/a>\u00a0recommends what to do after getting out of the house.<\/p>\n

Don\u2019t go out to eat<\/a>\u00a0or get a haircut, don\u2019t go\u00a0shopping\u00a0for\u00a0food\u00a0or go to the\u00a0gym\u00a0\u2014\u00a0 go to a\u00a0museum.<\/p>\n

According to the Berlin Institute of Technology (TU Berlin)<\/a>\u00a0in\u00a0Germany<\/a>, the risk of COVID-19 infection via aerosol particles is far lower in museums than in supermarkets, restaurants, offices and on public transportation.<\/p>\n

Variables considered<\/a>\u00a0were the quality of the airflow, the type of activity carried out in the space, and the dose of aerosol particles inhaled by people in a room.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat is clear from the study is that it is above all the situations in which we like to be that are unfavorable,\u201d\u00a0said\u00a0Martin Kriegel<\/a>, who helped lead\u00a0the study<\/a>. \u201cSituations in which many people come together in a confined space: there you can not ventilate sufficiently, it will always be an unfavorable situation.\u201d<\/p>\n

Outdoor activities all increased last year in the face of canceled indoor events and cautions about the dangers of catching the virus while around other people inside.<\/p>\n

The study said<\/a>\u00a0food shopping,\u00a0dining indoors<\/a>\u00a0or exercising in a gym are at least twice as risky as\u00a0visiting a museum to view art<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Museums, however, haven\u2019t been considered essential to the populace.<\/p>\n

Celeste DeWald, the executive director of the California Association of Museums, told the\u00a0New York Times<\/a>\u00a0earlier this month: \u201cIt\u2019s frustrating to see crowded shopping malls and retail spaces and airports, yet museums are completely closed and many have not been able to reopen at all for the last 10 months. [\u2026] There is a unique impact on museums.\u201d<\/p>\n

Critics think museum closure is a political matter.<\/p>\n

In a column for the\u00a0Los Angeles Times<\/a>,\u00a0art critic Carolina A. Miranda<\/a>\u00a0called\u00a0California<\/a>\u00a0Gov. Gavin Newsom\u2019s policies<\/a>\u00a0\u201cabsurd.\u201d Museums in the Golden State remain closed to visitors.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe wildly uneven criteria speak more to the powerful, well-funded lobbies helping shape public health policy than to anything resembling science<\/a> or even common sense,\u201d Miranda wrote. \u201cAt a moment in which it is possible to get a tattoo or paw the goods at Chanel in Beverly Hills, it should be possible to visit a museum. Period.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
