ORLANDO, Fla. \u2014 Freshman firebrand Congresswoman Lauren Boebert drew cheers at CPAC Saturday after saying she was no fan of the continued security around Washington, D.C. \u2014 and \u201cFort Pelosi.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI wouldn\u2019t be surprised if we start quartering soldiers in the committee hearing rooms,\u201d Boebert said during a gun-rights panel at the annual GOP confab.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s plenty in the parking garages at Fort Pelosi. Maybe we can start unreasonably seizing and searching members of Congress. Oh, wait, we\u2019re already doing that in House chambers,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

National Guard troops and barricades have been a mainstay in the Capitol since the deadly Jan. 6 insurrection. A growing number of lawmakers have begun to question the optics of the continued security measures. <\/p>\n

Boebert, who has stirred ire among Democrats (and the Capitol Police) for her insistence on carrying a weapon, said she had since received a concealed carry permit in the Capitol. <\/p>\n

The panel was hosted by NRA spokeswoman Dana Loesch, who noted wryly that it was the first time she wasn\u2019t the most controversial speaker on stage.<\/p>\n

Just before Boebert, CPACers heard from former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who was introduced by his son Nick. The elder Pompeo \u2014 who is rumored to harbor presidential ambitions \u2014\u00a0mostly used his time to praise President Trump and revel in his career highlights.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe were told you can\u2019t move the United States embassy to Jerusalem There will be war. Well we did and there was not a war,\u201d he said to app<\/a>lause. \u201cHow many of you remember Qasem Soleimani. Allah rest his soul \u2026 In the end he didn\u2019t cause trouble for America or anyone else ever again.\u201d<\/p>\n

Pompeo frequently paused to bask in applause and occasionally clap for himself. He also offered shots at Democrats and Joe Biden, and took a veiled swipe at Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez over what he said was imminent spending cuts to national defense. <\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re going to trade army green for AOC green,\u201d he said. <\/p><\/div>\n
