“#NYC Dalton School’s head of diversity is leaving post<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

The head of diversity at the tony Dalton School \u2014 the Upper East Side bastion of privilege that\u2019s been rocked by controversy recently over its heavy-handed \u201canti-racist\u201d ideology \u2014 is out, school officials said.<\/p>\n

Domonic Rollins, the school\u2019s director of DEI (\u201cDiversity, Equity, and Inclusion\u201d) is leaving \u201cin pursuit of other opportunities,\u201d the school said Friday.<\/p>\n

Rollins joined Dalton in July 2019 from Harvard University, where he worked in the president\u2019s office as a strategist and advisor on diversity, inclusion and belonging, and as senior diversity and inclusion officer at Harvard\u2019s Graduate School of Education. <\/p>\n

The last few months of Rollins\u2019 tenure were marked by aggressive new moves on the part of Dalton\u2019s headmaster Jim Best to ensure the school would be more \u201canti-racist.\u201d<\/p>\n

But simmering conflicts over the issue of anti-racism at Dalton \u2014 which counts Anderson Cooper, Christian Slater and Claire Danes as alumni \u2014\u00a0erupted publicly in December when the school\u2019s administration and faculty issued eight pages of \u201cproposals\u201d to overhaul the staffing, curriculum and treatment of Black students.<\/p>\n

Parents and alumni at the school fired off a scathing open letter decrying the school\u2019s new race-obsessed agenda last month.<\/p>\n

The anonymous missive to the \u201cDalton community,\u201d obtained by the Post, charges the \u201clove of learning and teaching is now being abandoned in favor of an \u2018anti-racist\u2019 curriculum.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the wake of the criticism, one parent felt James Best, the head of the school, simply made Rollins a scapegoat. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt looks as though Rollins was Jim Best\u2019s fall guy,\u201d a Dalton parent told the Post. \u201cThe old white guy staying and the black guy leaving.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rollins \u201crubbed a lot of people the wrong way, including some longtime and supportive Dalton families,\u201d the Naked Dollar blog reported Saturday<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The blogger claims one parent described Rollins as, \u201ccompletely dismissive of people not of color.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 89th Street institution educates 1,300 students in grades K-12, charging $54,180 a year in tuition. It is more diverse than most of NYC\u2019s elite prep schools, with a student body that is 57 percent white, 19 percent multi-racial, 11 percent Asian, 10 percent Black and 3 percent Hispanic.<\/p>\n

Neither Rollins nor Best could be immedia<\/a>tely reached for comment.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
