Scottish actor Graham McTavish is a jack of all trades in genre TV.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He\u2019s app<\/a>eared in shows ranging from historical time travel<\/a> (\u201cOutlander\u201d) to sci-fi westerns (AMC\u2019s \u201cPreacher\u201d) to urban fantasy (Fox\u2019s \u201cLucifer\u201d) to voicing iconic characters (Dracula in the animated Netflix series<\/a> \u201cCastlevania\u201d). On the big screen, he\u2019s played a dwarf in Peter Jackson\u2019s \u201cHobbit\u201d movie trilogy. \u00a0<\/p>\n

McTavish\u2019s latest endeavor is the nonfiction series \u201cMen in Kilts,\u201d which he co-created and appears in with Sam Heughan, his former \u201cOutlander\u201d co-star. In the series (Sundays at 9 p.m. on Starz), McTavish and Heughan show off their homeland by traveling to various sites and recounting those locales\u2019 historical significance.<\/p>\n

McTavish, 60, answered some questions for The Post.<\/p>\n

What was the most challenging aspect of making \u201cMen in Kilts?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

You\u2019re in some very isolated parts of the country. I think sometimes people traveling from abroad underestimate how long it\u2019s going to take to move around Scotland. A lot of it is single-track roads. If you\u2019re lucky, there are two lanes but there aren\u2019t freeways or anything like that. As Sam [Heughan] says, it\u2019s a country built for driving cattle; not driving camper vans.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s the series\u2019 takeaway?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Hopefully viewers will be inspired to make their own road trip. It doesn\u2019t have to be in Scotland but with someone that you enjoy being with \u2014 which sadly obviously wasn\u2019t the case for me! But if we inspire people, that would be the greatest takeaway for me. Hopefully they\u2019ll grow to share our love of Scotland as well.<\/p>\n

Did you have a favorite part of Scotland that you got to explore?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I think the sporting aspect of it brought some incredible experiences: playing golf at St. Andrews, being allowed to go onto the turf at the Braemar Highland Game<\/a>s. That was an enormous privilege, and to meet those people and hear their stories was fantastic. Every single day apart \u2014 from one when Sam had to go skinny-dipping in the North Atlantic \u2014 was sunny and amazing, so that was also a surprise. We were very lucky.<\/p>\n

You also check out the Culloden battlefield, which is fictionalized in \u201cOutlander.\u201d What was that like?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

That was such a pivotal moment for Scotland; I wonder if they realized at the time what the effect of that battle was going to be on Scottish and British history and, by extension, many other parts of the world. However much we can get into it as characters, nothing beats being on the actual battlefield and seeing it.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
