\n

TAMPA \u2014 DJ LeMahieu led the majors in batting average last season and is coming off a pair of the best offensive years in the sport.<\/p>\n

The Yankees star hasn\u2019t reflected much on that, however.<\/p>\n

\u201cJust because last year was good doesn\u2019t mean anything,\u2019\u2019 LeMahieu said Saturday. \u201cIt\u2019s a big confidence thing, coming off last year, but at the same time, I\u2019m not taking anything for granted.\u201d<\/p>\n

That\u2019s why he spent this past offseason with one thing in mind: \u201cChasing perfection with my swing.\u201d<\/p>\n

His pursuit has paid off well enough that re-signing LeMahieu was Yankees general<\/a> manager Brian Cashman\u2019s top priority this winter.<\/p>\n

After a lengthy negotiation, LeMahieu got a six-year, $90 million deal and the Yankees went on with the rest of their offseason plans, deepening the starting rotation, bullpen and outfield.<\/p>\n

Not surprisingly, LeMahieu\u2019s mindset is the same following the payday<\/p>\n

\u201cNot a whole lot of changes,\u2019\u2019 LeMahieu said. \u201cJust getting back after it. \u2026 I had two of my most fun years in \u201919 and \u201920. To have the opportunity to do that for six more years is exciting.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gerrit Cole and Jameson Taillon are curious to see what the redesigned baseballs being used by MLB are like, but hitting coach Marcus Thames isn\u2019t as concerned about the issue.<\/p>\n

Asked if the offense would change its \u201cphilosophy\u201d because there is some thought the balls might not travel<\/a> as far as the ones used in recent seasons, Thames made it clear it would not.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo, we\u2019re not changing our philosophy,\u2019\u2019 Thames said. \u201cWe\u2019re gonna control the strike zone and try to kick up some dust when the ball is in our damage zone.\u201d<\/p>\n

The new balls, according to a source, will be used throughout the spring and aren\u2019t expected to perform any differently.<\/p>\n

While Cole and Taillon have said they weren\u2019t even sure which balls they had been throwing this spring, Thames said the team had some Friday.<\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t really tell the difference,\u2019\u2019 Thames said. \u201cWe\u2019ve got some pretty powerful guys. I don\u2019t want our guys thinking about the baseball \u2014 other than hitting it.\u201d<\/p>\n

As for whether other teams or players alter their app<\/a>roaches, Thames laughed and said, \u201cWe\u2019ll talk about this in November and we\u2019ll see.\u201d<\/p>\n

Aaron Judge altered his workout program this offseason in an attempt to avoid injuries and become more \u201cdynamic.\u201d<\/p>\n

Thames said Judge\u2019s \u201cswing looks good. We just want him to stay healthy and hope that protects everything.\u201d<\/p>\n

Right-hander Mike King is slated to start Sunday against Toronto, followed by Asher Wojciechowski, Lucas Luetge and Kyle Barraclough, as well as Nick Goody and Adam Warren, who both returned to the Yankees this offseason. <\/p>\n

Aaron Boone said while there have been few physical issues in camp, Nestor Cortes Jr. is dealing with \u201can ankle issue,\u2019\u2019 but shouldn\u2019t miss any time.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
