And in 2021, the ceremony honoring film and TV has given us plenty of strange choices to whine about.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, it was revealed that the Netflix show \u201cEmily in Paris\u201d<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/business\/story\/2021-02-21\/hfpa-golden-globes-2021\"> reportedly flew \u2153 of the 90-person Globes voting bloc to Paris<\/a> and put them up in the\u00a0$1,400-a-night Peninsula hotel for a junket. The chic <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">trip<\/a> to the City of Lights might have helped net the show two nominations, including best comedy <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">series<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Sia\u2019s nominated film \u201cMusic\u201d is awash in controversy for its h<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>y-go-lucky portrayal of autism. And to cap it all off, it was reported just days ago that the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which puts on the ceremony, has zero black members. A banner year!<\/p>\n<p>But the Globes have long provoked skepticism and outrage for its shady dealings and cuckoo picks. Gross. Times critic Vincent Canby said the newcomer\u2019s sexualized performance was \u201clike a Brigitte Bardot who\u2019s been recycled through a kitchen compactor.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When Zadora got the award, some lobbed accusations that her then-husband, Israeli billionaire \u200eMeshulam Riklis, swayed the Hollywood Foreign Press Association by hosting a lavish press junket at the Riviera Hotel in Las Vegas, which he owned.<\/p>\n<p>Still, she maintains she won her trophy fair and square. It received Oscar nods, too, and Al Pacino rightly won an Academy Award for playing a blind lieutenant colonel. But it was never the season front-runner. (It competed against \u201cA Few Good Men,\u201d \u201cHoward\u2019s End,\u201d \u201cThe Crying <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/game\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"7\" title=\"Game\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Game<\/a>\u201d and \u201cUnforgiven,\u201d which ultimately won the Oscar for Best Picture). That definitely tracks for Halle Berry\u2019s <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.goldenglobes.com\/film\/frankie-alice\">2011 best actress in a drama film<\/a> nod for \u201cFrankie &amp; Alice.\u201d The small Canadian movie about a stripper with a murderous split personality was skewered by critics, although some praised Berry\u2019s work. Stranger still, most Americans weren\u2019t able to see it. In the comedy, he played a suicidal man who becomes a medical student and questions the traditional doctor-patient interactions. He\u2019d rather yuk it up instead. But, as Gene Siskel put it, \u201cWho would want Mork at their bedside?\u201d The film was an awkward mix of lowbrow jokes and extreme sentimentality, and Williams\u2019 performance was cranked up to 11.
