\n Black \u201cSurvivor\u201d contestants are speaking out about their experiences in the long-running reality series<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Among the allegations are that the CBS show, hosted by Jeff Probst, edited them into racial stereotypes and that fellow contestants used racial slurs against them, which were cut in the editing room.<\/p>\n

Ramona Gray Amaro \u2014 who made TV history in 2000 as the first black woman featured on the show \u2014 told NPR that these stereotypes include, \u201cWe can\u2019t swim \u2026 we butt heads, we\u2019re athletic, but maybe not smart and strategic \u2026 I\u2019m just saying, \u2018Do right by us.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

She also said that she was filmed looking \u201clazy\u201d when she was dehydrated.<\/p>\n

\u201cI became the lazy person, which is the furthest thing from the truth. That really upset me, and it took me a long time to get over it. \u2026 To realize, we signed our life away. They can do whatever they want to do.\u201d<\/p>\n

Twelve Black contestants also went on a podcast with white contestant Rob Cesternino to share similar experiences. Black alums of the show are petitioning to put more people of color behind the scenes and make changes for its 41st and 42nd seasons, amid the growing Black Lives Matter movement, largely renewed following the death of George Floyd and others while in police custody.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
