This isn\u2019t just about the\u00a0free upgrade offer: Even if you purchase a new PC that comes with a Windows 10 license or spend $200 for a copy of Windows 10 Professional, you\u2019ll see ads in your operating system. Suggested apps aren\u2019t necessarily free, and we\u2019ve seen Microsoft use this feature to advertise\u00a0$60 PC games from\u00a0the Windows Store (which, by the way,\u00a0you shouldn\u2019t buy). These tips have included recommendations to use Microsoft Edge for better battery life, and an encouragement to use Microsoft Edge so you can earn Microsoft\u00a0Rewards points.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019d like to just use your own preferred applications without Microsoft nagging you, you\u2019ll need to disable these tips. For example, you might see a notification telling you to set up Cortana. Cortana will regularly bounce in place, encouraging you to try using it.<\/p>\n<p>If you don\u2019t want Cortana nagging you, click the Cortana search bar, click the Settings icon, scroll down, and disable the\u00a0\u201cTaskbar Tidbits\u201d option under \u201cLet\u00a0Cortana pipe up from time to time with thoughts, greetings, and notifications in the Search box\u201d. From then on, Cortana will sit quietly\u00a0until you want to use it.<\/p>\n<p>If you don\u2019t want Cortana running at all, you can choose to disable Cortana with a registry or group policy setting. These banners can be disabled in File Explorer\u2019s options window.<\/p>\n<p>To disable these options, open File Explorer\u2019s options window by clicking the \u201cView\u201d tab at the top of a FIle Explorer window and clicking the \u201cOptions\u201d button on the ribbon. You can also simply find the Get Office app in your Start menu, right-click it, and select \u201cUninstall\u201d. However, it may come back when you update Windows 10 in the future.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-269345\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/img_57c4cd9dec589.png\" alt=\"\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Uninstall_Candy_Crush_Saga_and_Other_Automatically_Installed_Apps\"><\/span>Uninstall Candy Crush Saga and Other Automatically Installed Apps<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Windows 10 \u201cautomatically downloads\u201d apps like <em>Candy Crush Soda Saga<\/em>, Flipboard, <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Twitter<\/a>, and\u00a0<em>Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition\u00a0<\/em>when you sign in for the first time. PC manufacturers can also add their own apps and live tiles that appear installed by default.<\/p>\n<p>These apps are installed as part of the \u201cMicrosoft Consumer Experience\u201d. There was a group policy setting to disable this, but it was removed from consumer versions of Windows 10 in the Anniversary Update. Only Windows 10 Enterprise users\u2013not even Windows 10 Professional users\u2013can turn this off.<\/p>\n<p>You can remove these apps and tiles, however. To do so, just open your Start menu, locate any\u00a0apps you don\u2019t want to use, right-click them, and select \u201cUninstall.\u201d Apps like <em>Candy Crush Soda Saga<\/em> and <em>FarmVille 2: Country Escape<\/em> will appear as tiles by default, but you can also find them under the all apps list.<\/p>\n<p>Some apps are simply given a tile but aren\u2019t yet downloaded. For example,\u00a0the Store and Xbox tiles often make use of the \u201clive tile\u201d feature to advertise apps and games Microsoft wants you to download.<\/p>\n<p>To disable live tiles that advertise to you, right-click a tile and\u00a0select More &gt; Turn live tile off. You can also just right-click a tile and select \u201cUnpin from Start\u201d to get rid of the tile entirely. This app doesn\u2019t just have advertising\u2013it has video ads that are 30 seconds long. You can avoid the advertising by paying $10 a year. Microsoft\u2019s Minesweeper game isn\u2019t installed by default, but it too has its own $10 a year subscription fee.\u00a0Those are steep prices for games that used to be free.<\/p>\n<p>Play another free Solitaire game instead. Click the \u201cShare\u201d tab on the ribbon and click the \u201cShare\u201d button to open it and share a file to an installed app.<\/p>\n<p>By default, this dialog doesn\u2019t just list your installed apps\u2014it also shows \u201csuggested\u201d apps Windows wants you to install from the Store.
