That is the highest February on record since the financial data provider\u2019s records began in the 1970s.<\/p>\n<div class=\"paywall\">\n       The burst of activity takes the value of M&amp;A announced so far this year to $698.7 billion, 56% more than the same period last year and a year-to-date total only exceeded twice before, in the years 2000 \u2014 at the peak of the dot-com boom \u2014 and in 2018.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Read: <\/strong>Surge in megadeals points to M&amp;A recovery as tech sector dominates<\/p>\n<p>The technology sector dominated global deal activity for the seventh month in a row, with $87 billion worth of deals struck in February, as cash-rich companies embarked on big acquisitions in two of the sectors that have benefited from increased investment during the coronavirus crisis.<\/p>\n<p>Notable deals this year include Japan\u2019s Renesas Electronics<br \/>\n        6723,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/203872935\/delayed\" class=\"positive\">+4.28%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       all-cash $6 billion bid for U.K.-based <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">App<\/a>le-supplier Dialog Semiconductor<br \/>\n        0OLN,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/208529923\/delayed\" class=\"negative\">-0.02%<\/bg-quote><span>,<\/span><br \/>\n       and UnitedHealth Group\u2019s<br \/>\n        UNH,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/210453738\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+1.44%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       $8 billion purchase of Change Healthcare<br \/>\n        CHNG,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/212846587\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+0.59%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       to bolster its technology business in January.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Read: <\/strong>Europe\u2019s first U.S.-style blank-check company just landed<\/p>\n<p>Special-purpose acquisition companies (SPACs), shell companies that use the proceeds from going public to buy another company, have surged to a record $150.6 billion so far this year and boosted the value of deal making.<\/p>\n<p>Deep-pocketed private equity groups have also stepped up the pace of acquisitions this year, as they look to capitalize on the abundance of cheap financing available to carry out leveraged buyouts.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Read:<\/strong> AT&amp;T poised to sell stake in DirecTV to TPG<\/p>\n<div id=\"cx-membership-tile\"><\/div>\n<p>\u201cWith the number of deals down in 2020 from recent levels, we expect to see a lot of pent-up demand returning to the market.
