It will be released sometime today, on March 2, 2021.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Chrome_OS_Phone_Hub_for_Android_Devices\"><\/span>Chrome OS Phone Hub for Android Devices<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-715116\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/phone-hub-chrome-os.png\" alt=\"chrome os phone hub\" width=\"650\" height=\"300\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Google has been working on a \u201cPhone Hub\u201d for Chrome OS for a little while. The functionality is similar to Microsoft\u2019s \u201cYour Phone\u201d app on Windows 10. You can link your Android device and sync notifications, see recent tabs, and more.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, the Phone Hub can be manually enabled through a Chrome flag. Some people saw it on Chrome 88 already, but it should be working even better on Chrome 89. You may see it without enabling anything after installing Chrome OS 89.<\/p>\n<p><strong>RELATED:<\/strong> <strong><em>How to Enable Chrome OS&#8217; Android Phone Hub Right Now<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"WebHID_Enabled_by_Default\"><\/span>WebHID Enabled by Default<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>\u201c<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/web.dev\/hid\/\">WebHID<\/a>\u201d is an API that aims to make less standardized keyboards and gamepads work better with web browsers. It provides a way to implement device-specific logic in JavaScript.<\/p>\n<p>Browsers rely on the same HID protocol as the operating system. However, an uncommon HID device, like a complex gamepad, may require custom logic to work properly in a browser. This API is now enabled by default and should improve things.<\/p>\n<p><strong>RELATED:<\/strong> <strong><em>What Is a Human Interface Device (HID)?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Web_Apps_Can_Use_NFC\"><\/span>Web Apps Can Use NFC<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Chrome 89 on Android enables \u201cWeb NFC\u201d by default. This means that web apps can now read and write NFC (Near Field Communications) tags. Typically, only native apps have been able to do this. Chrome 89 brings Windows and Chrome OS web sharing closer in line with what you see on Android.<\/p>\n<p>If a site supports the new web sharing, the share button will open a native sharing menu. That way, you can share the link with any apps on your device that support it. You\u2019re not just limited to a Facebook and Twitter button.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Dropping_Support_for_Old_Processors\"><\/span>Dropping Support for Old Processors<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Starting with Chrome 89, the browser will <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1QUzL4MGNqX4wiLvukUwBf6FdCL35kCDoEJTm2wMkahw\/edit#\">no longer support<\/a> older x86 processors that don\u2019t meet the new requirements. Devices will need to\u00a0meet a minimum of SSE3 (Supplemental Streaming SIMD Extensions 3).<\/p>\n<p>This shouldn\u2019t be an issue for the vast majority of devices running Chrome 89 today.\u00a0Processors have been supporting SSE3 for close to 15 years. If you do happen to have one of these devices, you\u2019ll be stuck on Chrome 88. Here\u2019s a <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/w3c.github.io\/web-share\/demos\/share-files.html\">sample website<\/a> that supports it.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Developer_Goodies\"><\/span>Developer Goodies<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Chrome 89 - What\u2019s New in DevTools\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/VtaRYSBIbU4?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Chrome 89 is especially heavy on the under-the-hood improvements and developer goodies. You can read about many of\u00a0these changes on its <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/developers.google.com\/web\/updates\/2021\/01\/devtools\">developer site<\/a> and the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.chromium.org\/2021\/01\/chrome-89-beta-advanced-hardware.html\">Chromium blog.<\/a>\u00a0We\u2019ll highlight a few changes here:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Debugging support for Trusted Types violations:<\/strong>\u00a0Developers can set breakpoints and catch exceptions on Trusted Type Violations through the Sources panel.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Capture node screenshot beyond viewport:<\/strong>\u00a0It\u2019s now possible to capture screenshots for a full node and the content below the folder from the Elements panel.<\/li>\n<li><strong>New Trust Tokens tab for network requests:<\/strong>\u00a0A new API called \u201cTrust Token\u201d can help fight fraud and distinguish bots from real people without passive tracking.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The Lighthouse panel is now running Lighthouse 7.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>AVIF Image Decode:<\/strong>\u00a0Chrome can now load AVIF content natively with AVI decoders on Android and Webview.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Cross-origin opener policy reporting API:<\/strong>\u00a0A new API allows sites to track usage across different domains.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Forced colors property:<\/strong>\u00a0The new forced-colors CSS media query allows sites to detect whether the device is set to high-contrast display mode.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr\/>\n<p>Chrome will automatically install the update on your device when it\u2019s available.
