Tiger Woods, who is recovering from a devastating car accident that left him with a shattered leg, describes in an upcoming documentary how he\u00a0has had to overcome his \u201cinner demons to perform.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 11-time PGA Player of the Year recalls in \u201cGOATs: The Greatest of all Time\u201d how he became \u201cthe youngest ever to win\u201d the Junior World Championships in the 10-and-under division at age 8, People reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n

It \u201cshowed me that I could play against the world\u2019s best, even though I was only 8 years old,\u201d the links legend says in the documentary, which airs Sunday, according to the mag.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt got me started on the right path \u2014 I had the self-belief that I could do it,\u201d the 45-year-old says. \u201cComing back [after losing my first two years] to become the youngest ever to win the event, that meant a lot to me.\u201d<\/p>\n

People, which obtained a clip of the series<\/a>, reported that Woods says that, for him, the sport is \u201calso about competing within myself.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI have to overcome all my inner demons to perform, \u2019cause no one\u2019s gonna bail me out,\u201d he explains. \u201cIt\u2019s not like \u2026 [you can have] a bad game<\/a> and just sit out.\u201d<\/p>\n

Compared to team sports where players can be swapp<\/a>ed out, \u201cWe don\u2019t have that,\u201d Woods says.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re stuck out there by ourselves. And you have to figure it out. And that\u2019s the difficulty about our sport, is no one\u2019s gonna bail us out,\u201d he adds.<\/p>\n

That mindset has taught him \u201chow to hang in there, how to grind, how to fight, and [that] self-belief is earned.\u201d<\/p>\n

Woods was driving a 2021\u00a0Genesis GV80\u00a0alone Feb. 23 when he\u00a0veered across the media<\/a>n\u00a0on Hawthorne Boulevard in Rancho Palos Verdes, went off the road and struck a tree \u2014 causing the car to roll over.<\/p>\n

The 15-time major champion is still recovering\u00a0after surgery to fix the compound fractures in his leg. It remains uncertain whether he will be able to continue his golf career.<\/p>\n

Directed by Kevin Kaufman and celebrating the work of sports photographer Walter Iooss, the three-part documentary \u2014 which was filmed prior to Woods\u2019 accident \u2014 also will feature interviews with athletes Derek Jeter, Michael Jordan, and the late Kobe Bryant, among others.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat he did on the course was truly remarkable \u2014 the putts he would make, his fist pumps to ignite the gallery, his charisma,\u201d Iooss said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen we worked together, he was an ultra-professional. We\u2019d have the setups planned with military precision and I always finished early, which he knew was a sign of respect to his time; we weren\u2019t wasting a single second,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWorking with Tiger was fun because he has a good sense of humor. For me, his 2019 Masters win is the most emotional sporting event I\u2019ve ever witnessed, even more so poignant because it was the last time we saw him play golf with his son,\u201d Iooss added.<\/p>\n

\u201cGOATs: The Greatest of all Time\u201d premieres at 8 p.m. Sunday on ESPN. \u00a0\n <\/p><\/div>\n
