\n Mark Zuckerberg is stepping up his efforts to stop the bleeding from Facebook\u2019s advertiser boycott.<\/p>\n

The social network\u2019s 36-year-old founder and chief executive will meet with the civil rights figures spearheading the push to get advertisers to jump ship from Facebook, the company said.<\/p>\n

Zuckerberg\u2019s planned meeting comes after company executives Carolyn Everson, Facebook\u2019s Vice President of global business solutions; and Neil Potts, the site\u2019s public policy director, held at least two meetings with advertisers Tuesday on the eve of the high-profile one-month boycott, according to Reuters.<\/p>\n

Everson and Potts offered no new details on how Facebook would fight hate speech, however, and left advertisers frustrated by repeatedly referring to recent press releases where they touted that Facebook catches 90 percent of all hate speech on its platform before it is ever reported.<\/p>\n

Zuckerberg agreed to a meeting after it was requested by the organizers of the \u201cStop Hate For Profit\u201d boycott.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey asked about having Mark at the meeting, and we\u2019ve since confirmed that Mark is able to join,\u201d the company told CNN Business in a statement. \u201cWe\u2019re waiting to hear back and look forward to the opportunity to continue the dialogue.\u201d<\/p>\n

More than 400 brands pulled their ads from Facebook\u2019s platform beginning Wednesday, including Starbucks, Microsoft and Unilever, in support of advocates\u2019 demands for the company to more aggressively tackle hate speech and misinformation.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, Facebook\u2019s UK boss Steve Hatch defended the company\u2019s efforts in combating hate speech, emphasizing that \u201cthere is no profit to be had in content that is hateful\u201d and arguing that posts on the site simply reflect the views of the people who use the platform.<\/p>\n

Indeed, according to Hatch, the content on Facebook simply reflects the views of the people who use the platform.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are 3 billion people around the world that use our platforms,\u201d Hatch said. \u201cOf course, there is a small minority of those that are hateful and that\u2019s because as much as we do our very best \u2014 and there\u2019s always more that we can do and we will do \u2014 but when there\u2019s hate in the world, there will also be hate on Facebook.\u201d<\/p>\n

Facebook this week agreed to a brand safety audit, and said it will make its \u201cpartner and content monetization policies\u201d as well as \u201cbrand safety controls\u201d available to the Media Rating Council.<\/p>\n

A representative for Facebook did not respond to The Post\u2019s request for comment.<\/p>\n

Shares of Facebook finished up 4.6 percent Wednesday, at $237.55.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
