Today, we\u2019re watching a video essay about James Gunn\u2019s underrated and repellent body horror sci-fi film<\/em> <em>Slither.<\/em><\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator is-style-wide\" id=\"block-f2a66749-703e-4022-b08d-bf18407921d9\"\/>There is only one way to describe <strong>James Gunn<\/strong>\u2018s <em><strong>Slither<\/strong><\/em> (2006). And <strong>Nathan Fillion<\/strong>\u2018s exasperated Police Chief Pardy says it best: \u201c<em>That is some fucked up shit<\/em>.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>On its (presumably sticky) surface, <em>Slither<\/em>\u2018s set-up is nothing new: a meteorite harboring a parasite smashes into a small town. After latching onto a wealthy local (<strong>Michael Rooker<\/strong>), the alien invader spreads, leaving a ragtag posse of survivors to kill the host and save the day. <\/p>\n<p>Indeed, <em>Slither <\/em>has its horrible, fleshy <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>endages in a lot of time-tested genre pies, from shared thematic beats with <em>Invasion of the Body Snatchers<\/em> (1978) and <em>The Thing <\/em>(1982) to direct visual nods to <em>Society <\/em>(1989) and <em>Shivers<\/em> (1975).<\/p>\n<p>But homages be damned, execution is everything. And armed with the budget to follow through on its B-movie premise, even if you\u2019re not squeamish, there\u2019s still a good chance <em>Slither<\/em> will get under your skin. Much of<em> <\/em>the film\u2019s repulsive power comes from its effects, which are, and I mean this as a compliment, absolutely horrible to look at. <\/p>\n<p>But, as the video essay below explains, bloated bellies and distended maws are not the only way <em>Slither <\/em>weaponizes discomfort to make its audience squirm. Comedy tends to cannibalize horror.
