“#’Clarice’ Star Michael Cudlitz Talks Starling and Krendler’s ‘Adversarial’ Relationship<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

If you\u2019ve been watching this ambitious new crime thriller, you\u2019ve probably already scrapp<\/a>ed most of what you thought you knew about Paul Krendler. In The Silence of the Lambs<\/i> and author Thomas Harris\u2019 sequel Hannibal<\/i>, the ambitious Justice Department bigwig is unambiguously hostile to FBI agent Clarice Starling. But Michael Cudlitz\u2019s<\/a> characterization in Clarice<\/i><\/a> is more fluid.<\/p>\n

\u201cTheir relationship starts massively adversarial, and we\u2019re going to learn specifically why,\u201d says Cudlitz (above). \u201cIt\u2019s not necessarily what everyone thinks on its surface.\u201d<\/p>\n

Already, this Krendler \u2014 leader of the Violent Criminal Apprehension Program task force \u2014 is showing more respect for Starling (Rebecca Breeds<\/a>) and her expertise in the realm of behavioral science<\/a>. \u201cIn some ways, he\u2019s in complete awe of her,\u201d the actor says. But \u201che comes from a world of facts, of policing \u2014 not this mumbo-jumbo. In his mind, it stands to tear down everything he believes in.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the March 4 episode, because a suspect on the verge of revealing a vast conspiracy behind a series<\/a> of murders was assassinated in their custody, the team is under investigation. As Special Agent Anthony Herman (David Hewlett) \u2014 Krendler\u2019s old nemesis \u2014 grills them, Starling starts to get a better sense of her enigmatic boss.<\/p>\n
