Reg\u00e9-Jean Page<\/strong> will have to compete for his newfound heartthrob status with Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans in the Russo brothers\u2019 spy thriller\u00a0The Gray Man<\/em><\/strong>. The\u00a0Bridgerton<\/em> breakout star has joined the cast of the upcoming Netflix film, which is said to be the most expensive in the streamer\u2019s history. And Netflix is not skimping on the film\u2019s star-studded cast, bringing\u00a0Billy Bob Thornton<\/strong> and Alfre Woodard<\/strong> on board\u00a0the Gray Man\u00a0<\/em>cast as well.<\/p>\n

Deadline reports that Reg\u00e9-Jean Page, Billy Bob Thornton, and Alfre Woodward have joined the starry\u00a0The Gray Man<\/em> cast, which is led by Ryan Gosling<\/strong> and Chris Evans<\/strong> and also includes\u00a0Ana de Armas<\/strong>,\u00a0Wagner Moura<\/strong>,\u00a0Jessica Henwick<\/strong>,\u00a0Julia Butters<\/strong>\u00a0and veteran Indian actor\u00a0Dhanush<\/strong>. Production for The Gray Man<\/em>\u00a0is starting in two weeks in Los Angeles.
\nNo character details were revealed for the three new cast members, but considering Page\u2019s physique and leading-man charm, it\u2019s likely we\u2019ll see him as another spy who could go toe-to-toe with Gosling\u2019s title character, a\u00a0freelance assassin\u00a0named Court Gentry who is hunted across the globe by his former CIA cohort Lloyd Hansen (Evans).<\/p>\n

Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo<\/strong>, who co-wrote the script<\/a> which got a recent polish by\u00a0their\u00a0Avengers: Endgame<\/a><\/em>\u00a0writers\u00a0Christopher Markus<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Stephen McFeely<\/strong>, The Grey Man<\/em>\u00a0is adapted from the novel by Mark Greaney, and sets up a \u201cdeadly duel between killers as a freelance assassin and former CIA operative named Court Gentry (Gosling) is hunted across the globe by Lloyd Hansen (Evans), a former cohort of Gentry\u2019s at the CIA.\u201d<\/p>\n

When the film was first announced, Anthony Russo said, \u201cThe movie is a real mano a mano between those two great actors, who represent two different versions of the CIA, in what it can be, and what it can do. For those who were fans of\u00a0Captain America: Winter Soldier<\/em>, this is us moving into that territory in more of a real-world setting. That\u2019s what this movie really means for us.\u201d<\/p>\n

It\u2019s the latest film to come out of the Russo brothers\u2019 partnership with Netflix through their production banner AGBO, which has produced such hits (with middling critical reception) as\u00a0Extraction<\/em>. And like\u00a0Extraction<\/em>,\u00a0The Gray Man<\/em> has the potential for the Russo brothers to do their favorite thing and turn it into a cinematic universe, as the novel is the first in a series<\/a> with eight sequels. But considering the overwhelmingly bad critical reception to\u00a0Cherry<\/em>,\u00a0the Russo brothers\u2019 first feature film after\u00a0Avengers: Endgame<\/em>, maybe better not.<\/p>\n

But the star power for\u00a0The Gray Man<\/em> cannot be denied, with a combo of rising and established stars rounding out the cast. We\u2019ll see if it makes\u00a0The Gray Man<\/em> a success.
