The papyrus is more than 19 feet long, according to a release from the University of Copenhagen.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Known as the Papyrus Louvre-Carlsberg manu<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">script<\/a>, the\u00a0papyrus had been split in two, with one piece at the Louvre Museum in Paris and the other in the University of Copenhagen\u2019s Papyrus Carlsberg Collection.<\/p>\n<p>The two pieces previously belonged to private collectors and several parts of the sheet\u00a0are still missing.<\/p>\n<p>This is the first time the Copenhagen half, which adds gruesome details on embalming mummies to the Paris half, has been translated, Live <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/sciencee\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"5\" title=\"Science\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Science<\/a> reported.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Written evidence on ancient Egyptian embalming methods is scarce, as mummification was considered a sacred art for an elite few and Egyptologists believe the practice was mainly passed down by word of mouth, the university\u2019s release said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Only two other ancient mummification guides have previously been found.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"739\" height=\"1024\" alt=\"The papyrus contains new evidence of the procedure for embalming the deceased's face, where the face is covered with a piece of red linen and aromatic substances.\" class=\"wp-image-17478008 lazyload\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/03\/Egyptian-mummification-details-003.jpeg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=300 300w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/03\/Egyptian-mummification-details-003.jpeg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=640 640w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/03\/Egyptian-mummification-details-003.jpeg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=962 962w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/03\/Egyptian-mummification-details-003.jpeg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=739 739w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 739px\"\/><figcaption>The papyrus contains new evidence of the procedure for embalming the deceased\u2019s face, where the face is covered with a piece of red linen and aromatic substances.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">Ida Christensen, University of Copenhagen<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The new manuscript gives \u201cextremely detailed\u201d descriptions that were left out of the previous discoveries, including the process of embalming the person\u2019s face.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe get a list of ingredients for a remedy consisting largely of plant-based aromatic substances and binders that are cooked into a liquid, with which the embalmers coat a piece of red linen,\u201d Egyptologist Sofie Schi\u00f8dt, from the University of Copenhagen, said in the release.<\/p>\n<p>Schi\u00f8dt teased details from the papyrus translated for her Ph.D. thesis, which will be published in full next year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe red linen is then applied to the dead person\u2019s face in order to encase it in a protective cocoon of fragrant and anti-bacterial matter,\u201d she continued.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Schi\u00f8dt\u00a0added the guide specifies the embalmer must work on the corpse every four days, which would be marked by a ritual procession of the body for a total of 17 processions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn between the four-day intervals, the body was covered with cloth and overlaid with straw infused with aromatics to keep away insects and scavengers,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>The mummy was finished on day 68 and then \u201cplaced in the coffin, after which the final days were spent on ritual activities allowing the deceased to live on in the afterlife,\u201d <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/news.ku.dk\/all_news\/2021\/02\/ancient-egyptian-manual-reveals-new-details-about-mummification\/\">Schi\u00f8dt\u00a0wrote.<\/a>\n            <\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
