Impeachment: American Crime Story<\/em><\/strong> has found its Hillary Clinton:\u00a0Sopranos<\/em> actress Edie Falco<\/strong> will play the former First Lady. It\u2019s the latest entry in the FX anthology series<\/a> from producer Ryan Murphy<\/strong>. The first season dealt with the O.J. Simpson trial, while season two focused on the murder of\u00a0Gianni Versace. This latest season won\u2019t deal with death, but rather the infamous \u201990s sex scandal that lead to the impeachment of then-President Bill Clinton.<\/p>\n

Collider<\/a>\u00a0broke the news<\/a> that Edie Falco would play Hillary Clinton on\u00a0Impeachment: American Crime Story<\/em>. Falco joins a cast that includes Clive Owen<\/strong> as Bill Clinton,\u00a0Sarah Paulson<\/strong>\u00a0as\u00a0Linda Trip<\/a>p,\u00a0Annaleigh Ashford<\/strong> as\u00a0Paula Jones, and\u00a0Billy Eichner\u00a0<\/strong>as\u00a0Matt Drudge, and\u00a0Beanie Feldstein<\/strong> as Monica\u00a0Lewinsky. The season is based on the political sex scandal involving Bill Clinton and Lewinsky, who was a\u00a022-year-old White House. Matt Drudge\u2019s\u00a0Drudge Report<\/em> broke the news that President Clinton had had an affair with Lewinsky; Clinton denied the affair but eventually admitted that it happ<\/a>ened. The President was impeached, primarily for perjury, and later acquitted.
\nJeffrey Toobin\u2019s book A Vast Conspiracy: The Real Story of the Sex Scandal That Nearly Brought Down a President<\/em> will serve as the source material for the season. Here\u2019s the book\u2019s synopsis:<\/p>\n

It\u2019s probably worth noting author Toobin would be part of a scandal of his own many years after writing the book \u2013 he was fired from\u00a0The New Yorker<\/i>\u00a0in 2020 for allegedly masturbating during a Zoom call with\u00a0New Yorker<\/i>\u00a0and\u00a0WNYC\u00a0radio staffers.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m iffy on most of the work of Mr. Ryan Murphy, but the\u00a0American Crime Story<\/em> shows have been pretty damn great. The first season,\u00a0The People v. O. J. Simpson<\/em>, was excellent.\u00a0The Assassination of Gianni Versace<\/em> was quite good, too (though not\u00a0as<\/em> good as\u00a0O. J.<\/em>). In addition to telling their central stories, the seasons so far have also dealt with further-reaching socio-political issues in America.\u00a0O. J.<\/em> dealt with issues of race while\u00a0Versace<\/em> focused on sexuality, and it\u2019s probably safe to assume that\u00a0Impeachment<\/em> will reveal how different the Clinton-Lewinsky scandal looks now, in the wake of the #MeToo movement. The casting for this season is particularly good, with Falco being an inspired choice to play the former First Lady.<\/p>\n
