Say his name five times in front of a mirror and he\u2019ll show up, bees buzzing, hook-hand raised, whispery voice ready to give you some ASMR vibes right before you die. Based (loosely) on a short story by <strong>Clive Barker<\/strong>, the 1995 horror film\u00a0<em>Candyman<\/em> is an all-time-classic \u2013 an operatic, gory, highly unnerving exploration of urban legends and race. The film spawned a few not-so-great sequels, and this year will see the release of a new\u00a0<em>Candyman<\/em> directed by <strong>Nia DaCosta<\/strong> and co-written by\u00a0<strong>Jordan Peele<\/strong>. A new documentary,\u00a0<strong><em>The Complete History of Candyman<\/em><\/strong>, has set out to explore the franchise as a whole, and why it continues to hold us in its sway. Check out a trailer below.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_Complete_History_of_Candyman_Trailer\"><\/span><strong>The Complete History of Candyman Trailer<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"The Complete History of Candyman Official Trailer [HD] | A Bryn Hammond Documentary\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/l5PoXhr_KIU?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><br \/>\n<!-- SlashFilm_300x250_In_Post --><em>The Complete History of Candyman<\/em> is a new documentary from\u00a0<strong>Bryn Curt James Hammond<\/strong> that \u201cbegins with an overview of the heyday of horror and its sharp decline, solely down to the responsibility of the decay of the slasher sub-genre, when all of Hollywood, from the sleaziest independent backstreet butcher to the highest-paid studio executive, was green-lighting any film that featured a masked psychopath, scores of 30 + something teenagers with a half decent set of lungs, an ample array of ways to die and, in the best of both worlds, all three.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>From there, the doc \u201ccomes full circle by analyzing the symbiotic relationship between the horror genre and the African-American experience, and how Spike Lee\u2019s masterpiece, Do the Right Thing, became the bracing model for how the studio system packaged contemporary racial issues in a manner that startlingly respects the ability of viewers to think for themselves, leading to the birth of Bernard Rose\u2019s Candyman; the two are inextricably linked, and its sequels.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>All of this sounds neat, and as a fan of the original\u00a0<em>Candyman<\/em>, I\u2019m interested to see where this goes. I especially like that the documentary <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ears to actually have something to\u00a0<em>say.\u00a0<\/em>There have been an unfortunate <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">series<\/a> of fan documentaries \u2013 that is, films that bill themselves as documentaries but are little more than a series of people talking about how much they love something without much insight beyond that. There\u2019s nothing wrong with that kind of fandom, but if you\u2019re making a documentary, you need more than talking heads saying, \u201cWow, this movie is so cool!\u201d over and over again.<\/p>\n<p>That said, it doesn\u2019t look like anyone involved with any of the\u00a0<em>Candyman<\/em> movies is interviewed here, and that\u2019s a little unfortunate. Still, I\u2019m more than willing to give\u00a0<em>The Complete History of Candyman<\/em> a shot when it arrives sometime this summer.
