Conservative: Anti-Cuomo Johnny-Come-Latelies<\/strong><\/p>\n

New York\u2019s liberal political class, including Mayor de Blasio, are turning against Gov. Cuomo and calling for his emergency powers to be revoked \u2014 \u201cbut why now?\u201d asks The Federalist\u2019s Christopher Bedford<\/a>. De Blasio and others cite Cuomo\u2019s withholding of nursing-home death data, but \u201cthat fact, you might notice, has been in the media<\/a> spotlight for weeks now,\u201d and outlets led by The Post have been probing the issue for nearly a year. The left cites the recent sexual-harassment allegations against the gov, \u201cwhich are indeed terrible. . . . But what about spending months lying and blaming others for 15,000 deaths in vulnerable elderly care facilities? Was that not enough to immediately end emergency authorities when it was exposed and then admitted?\u201d<\/p>\n

Media watch: The \u2018Invented\u2019 Andrew Narrative<\/strong><\/p>\n

At The Daily Beast, Ross Barkan wonders <\/a>what \u201ctook so long\u201d for the press to wake up on Andrew Cuomo. A year ago, pundits and reporters elevated the gov to \u201chero\u201d status, failing to ask why \u201che kept comparing coronavirus to the flu and insisting that \u2018fear\u2019 was more dangerous than the virus itself\u201d as the pandemic began. Or why he \u201cdismissed the idea of shutting down New York City as late as March 17,\u201d simply because \u201chis nemesis, Bill de Blasio,\u201d suggested it first. But \u201creporters crave narratives\u201d and opted to cast Cuomo as the \u201cfoil\u201d to the dark President Trump. Leave that tactic to fiction: \u201cNovelists invent; reporters report.\u201d The same media are now introducing \u201cCuomo the Consummate Creep,\u201d but \u201cit should\u2019ve happ<\/a>ened a lot sooner.\u201d<\/p>\n

Foreign Desk: A Transformed Middle East<\/strong><\/p>\n

In The New York Times, Thomas L. Friedman considers<\/a> the early fruits of President Donald Trump\u2019s Abraham Accords, such as: \u201cIn the middle of a global pandemic, at least 130,000 Israeli tourists and investors have flown to Dubai and Abu Dhabi since commercial air travel<\/a> was established in mid-October.\u201d And: \u201cA new Hebrew language school that holds classes in Dubai and Abu Dhabi has been swamped with Emiratis wanting to study in Israel or do business there.\u201d In short, \u201ctourists, students and businesses\u201d are now driving \u201cthe openings between Israel and the Gulf States.\u201d If it keeps up, \u201cwe are talking about one of the most significant realignments in modern Middle East history\u201d \u2014 with Israel and its new allies standing out for no longer \u201cletting the past bury [the] future.\u201d<\/p>\n

Conservative: Amazon Suppresses Black History<\/strong><\/p>\n

During Black History Month, Amazon\u2019s streaming service removed \u201cCreated Equal: Clarence Thomas in His Own Words,\u201d a documentary showing the justice\u2019s \u201crise from poverty in segregated Georgia to Yale Law School and, eventually, to the Supreme Court,\u201d reports The Wall Street Journal\u2019s Jason L. Riley<\/a>. With \u201cplenty of demand these days for positive assessments of black conservatives,\u201d this is just the latest proof that \u201cone of the country\u2019s most popular streaming services is ambivalent about showcasing them.\u201d \u201cWittingly or not, Amazon has used its power to abet\u201d the growing effort to expunge from history those \u201cmore focused on black development than on black victimhood\u201d or \u201cmore interested in the results of a policy than in its intentions.\u201d<\/p>\n

2024 Watch: Trumpism Without The Donald?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ex-President Donald Trump remains enormously popular with the GOP\u2019s populist base \u2014 so, observes The Washington Post\u2019s Marc A. Thiessen<\/a>, \u201cit was stunning that when Trump\u2019s most fervent supporters were asked whom they would support in 2024 if Trump were running, only 55 percent said they would vote for the former president.\u201d That bare majority suggests that almost half of the base wants \u201csomeone else to carry the banner of Trumpism into the next election. . . . It\u2019s a grudging recognition by many of his most ardent loyalists that, despite their adoration of him, there might be better candidates to advance his ideas.\u201d With four years to the next election, much is in flux; the only certainty is that \u201cit is highly unlikely\u201d an anti-Trump Republican will win the GOP nomination.<\/p>\n
