{"id":194805,"date":"2021-03-05T02:57:51","date_gmt":"2021-03-04T23:57:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/letters-to-the-editor-march-5-2021\/"},"modified":"2021-03-05T02:57:51","modified_gmt":"2021-03-04T23:57:51","slug":"letters-to-the-editor-march-5-2021","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/letters-to-the-editor-march-5-2021\/","title":{"rendered":"#Letters to the Editor \u2014 March 5, 2021"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#Letters to the Editor \u2014 March 5, 2021<\/strong>&#8221;<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/03\/Dr_Seuss_Canceled.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><strong>The Issue: Dr. Seuss Enterprises\u2019 decision to stop publishing six of his books for offensive imagery.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Instead of cherry-picking through a <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">series<\/a> of books with the whole objective of finding perceived slights against different races, why not focus on book <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">theme<\/a>s by Ted \u201cDr. Seuss\u201d Geisel (\u201cGreen eggs &amp; ban: Seuss nix,\u201d March 3)?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Sneetches,\u201d published in 1961, depicts how one group with stars on their bellies is thought to be far superior than those without.<\/p>\n<p>The lasting message, stressing that the outer shell is not as important as the inside, was also the subject of a powerful speech given just a few years later by Martin Luther King, Jr.<\/p>\n<p>Sadly, even those compelling words don\u2019t seem to have a place in today\u2019s twisted cancel culture.<\/p>\n<p><em>Gary Kaelin<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Commack<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Kyle Smith\u2019s column, (\u201cWoke grinches will cancel us inch by inches,\u201d March 3) was spot-on and hilarious.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Seuss would be proud of his witticism and defense of his incredible publications. Let\u2019s please stop this woke madness.<\/p>\n<p><em>Scott W. Ventrella<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Ridgefield, Conn.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The agenda of \u201ccancel culture\u201d is roaring through our country like an oversized lawnmower, cutting everything it comes in contact with.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s disheartening that Dr. Seuss\u2019 step-daughter, Lark Grey Dimond-Cates, agrees with Dr. Seuss Enterprises\u2019 decision to discontinue publishing six of Seuss\u2019 books.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Seuss is a staple of children\u2019s lives and reading development. His books were some of the first I learned how to read. I taught my children how to read with them, and my granddaughters learned to read with them.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Seuss should be commemorated for his contribution of magic, imagination, happiness and a love of reading to so many.<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s start with treating each other the way we would like to be treated. Reading Dr. Seuss books was the joy of my career.<\/p>\n<p>Now, I applaud Dr. Seuss Enterprises for recognizing cultural insensitivity within their own organization.<\/p>\n<p><em>Wayne E. Simple solution \u2014 don\u2019t buy the book, as is your right.<\/p>\n<p>But trying to force this opinion on the rest of the country is ludicrous. I believe we need to get back to two basic concepts going forward as a nation: respect and common sense.<\/p>\n<p>Have respect for people and their beliefs without forcing your beliefs on anyone. <\/p>\n<p><em>Joe Marco<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Hatboro, Pa.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I am now convinced that the world has totally spun out of control.<\/p>\n<p>It started with the revision of Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head\u2019s design because our children should be able to create their own types of families. Now, we need to stifle Dr. Seuss? I\u2019m missing something.<\/p>\n<p>Little by little history \u2014 good and bad \u2014 is being expunged. I grew up with Dr. Seuss and have no plans to eliminate him from my past.<\/p>\n<p>In the words of that illustrious man: \u201cDon\u2019t cry because it\u2019s over, smile because it happened.\u201d There is much to be learned from our bygone days. <\/p>\n<p><em>Judy Petillo Eggert<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Long Branch, NJ<\/em><\/p>\n<p>It is disturbing but not surprising that we have reached the point where even Dr. Seuss\u2019 works are taken out of context.<\/p>\n<p>People are willing to pounce on anyone who says anything that is not aligned with their thoughts. We are creating mountains out of molehills and as a result, creating a larger chasm in our society.<\/p>\n<p>We cannot go forward as a nation and as good people if we eliminate everything that is not to our liking. We have to be open-minded and discuss our differences.<\/p>\n<p>I read Dr. Seuss as a child, and quite frankly all I remember are the rhyming lyrics, the enjoyable stories and the funny cartoons.
