Parler filed a new lawsuit against Amazon over the tech titan\u2019s decision to boot the social<\/a> network from its servers following January\u2019s Capitol riots.<\/p>\n

The controversial startup filed the complaint in Washington state court on Tuesday, the same day it dropped the federal antitrust suit it brought against Amazon\u2019s cloud-computing business roughly two months ago.<\/p>\n

Similar in scope and equally scathing, the new suit claims Amazon Web Services\u2019 move to force Parler offline was politically motivated and meant to protect Twitter \u2014 another one of its clients \u2014\u00a0from a growing rival.<\/p>\n

The complaint also alleges that AWS has been \u201csecretly selling Parler user data to anyone with a certain type of Amazon account\u201d \u2014 though it does not provide detailed evidence for that claim.<\/p>\n

\u201cEven as of the date of this complaint, Parler has been unable to regain the reputation and success it enjoyed before AWS terminated its services,\u201d Parler\u2019s lawyers wrote in the lawsuit. \u201cNot surprisingly, when an internet-based company cannot get on the internet, the damage is extraordinary.\u201d<\/p>\n

Parler\u2019s latest legal salvo came about two weeks after it relaunched its free-speech-focused social media platform, which has become popular with supporters of ex-President Donald Trump and other right-wing activists.<\/p>\n

In Parler\u2019s telling, Amazon suddenly turned on the firm amid a period of explosive growth that saw the site\u2019s valuation climb to $1 billion. AWS had even offered to finance Parler last September through its funding program for \u201cstartups with high potential,\u201d according to the complaint.<\/p>\n

But Parler now claims that Amazon\u2019s actions cost it tens of millions of \u201ccurrent and prospective future users\u201d along with hundreds of millions of dollars in annual advertising revenue.<\/p>\n

Amazon, headed by billionaire Jeff Bezos, has denied that its action against Parler had anything to do with politics. The Seattle-based colossus said it cut ties with Parler because the site was \u201cunable or unwilling\u201d to police violent and dangerous content in the wake of the Jan. 6 pro-Trump insurrection at the Capitol.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is no merit to these claims,\u201d an AWS spokesperson said in a statement. \u201cAWS provides technology<\/a> and services to customers across the political spectrum, and we respect Parler\u2019s right to determine for itself what content it will allow.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
