A day after a horde of Twitter<\/a> users completely lost their minds talking about the perceived attractiveness of a cartoon rabbit from a movie aimed at children, the director of Space Jam: A New Legacy<\/strong><\/em> has revealed some new information about Lola Bunny, the female member of the Tune Squad basketball team in the original Space Jam<\/em> and its upcoming sequel. It sounds like filmmaker Malcolm D. Lee<\/strong> and his team put a lot of energy into de-sexualizing the character, but he also revealed that when audiences are re-introduced to Lola, she\u2019ll be hanging out with the Amazons from WB and DC\u2019s Wonder Woman<\/em> movies<\/a>. Yes, really.<\/span><\/p>\n

Entertainment Weekly<\/a>, which yesterday debuted a cover story detailing the movie\u2019s bonkers-sounding plot, held back some details about their conversation with Lee that focused on Lola Bunny, including the fact that when audiences first see her in this sequel, she\u2019s going to be doing some soul-searching with the Amazons from Wonder Woman, presumably in Themiscyra.<\/p>\n

\"Lola
\n\u201cWe wanted to meet her with the Amazons, trying to find greener pastures for herself,\u201d Lee said. \u201cAs she says in the movie, there\u2019s more to her than just being a Tune.\u201d<\/p>\n

If you\u2019re wondering what the hell is going on, you may have missed the fact that Space Jam: A New Legacy<\/em> is going to be a Ready Player One<\/em>-style mishmash which incorporates tons of different Warner Bros. cinematic properties into one an area called the Warner 3000 \u201cServer-verse.\u201d The (deranged) plot involves LeBron James<\/strong> and his son getting sucked into that world by an artificial intelligence who wants to steal some of LeBron\u2019s social media followers. The plot of the first Space Jam<\/em> was admittedly dumb, but frankly, this sounds totally unwatchable and essentially like a super-expensive ad for HBO Max, where all of those properties can be streamed at the click of a button.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, apologies to all of the 30-year-olds out there who are horny on main for Lola Bunny and count that character as a formative part of their sexual awakening, but Lola is not going to be given the same treatment in the sequel that she was in the original film. \u201cThis is a kids\u2019 movie, why is she in a crop top?\u201d Lee asked after seeing the first film for the first time a couple of years ago. \u201cThis is 2021. It\u2019s important to reflect the authenticity of strong, capable female characters. She probably has the most human characteristics of the Tunes; she doesn\u2019t have a thing like a carrot or a lisp or a stutter. So we reworked a lot of things, not only her look, like making sure she had an app<\/a>ropriate length on her shorts and was feminine without being objectified, but gave her a real voice. For us, it was, let\u2019s ground her athletic prowess, her leadership skills, and make her as full a character as the others.\u201d<\/p>\n

Space Jam: A New Legacy<\/em>, complete with its reworked version of Lola Bunny, will arrive on HBO Max and in theaters on July 16<\/strong>, 2021<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
