Of all the must-see musical moments in the long-awaited sequel \u201cComing 2 America,\u201d which arrives Friday on Amazon Prime Video, perhaps the most memorable one belongs to the man himself: Eddie Murphy.<\/p>\n

Or make that Randy Watson.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s right: The Jheri-curled crooner \u2014 one of several characters that Murphy played in addition to Prince Akeem in 1988\u2019s \u201cComing to America\u201d \u2014 is back for his encore 33 years after warbling \u201cThe Greatest Love of All.\u201d<\/p>\n

And this time \u2014 once again accompanied by his backup band, Sexual Chocolate \u2014 he\u2019s singing \u201cWe Are Family\u201d<\/a> with a lyrical twist: \u201cWe are family\/I got Sexual Chocolate with me.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThat was absolutely Eddie Murphy\u2019s idea from start to finish,\u201d said Randy Spendlove, president of Worldwide Music and Publishing at Paramount, the film\u2019s production company. \u201cThat is 100 percent Eddie Murphy, the brilliance of him \u2026 with all the original members of Sexual Chocolate there in the background.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

It\u2019s just one of the ways in which \u201cComing 2 America\u201d honors the original\u2019s musical legacy. <\/p>\n

\u201cThe original had a lot of music, and the original soundtrack was tremendously successful, so it was big shoes to fill,\u201d said Spendlove. \u201cThe great news<\/a> is that our director, Craig Brewer, along with Eddie, had such a tremendous musical vision.\u00a0Much of it was planned out in advance, and some of the great moments came together while on set shooting in Atlanta. These amazing cameos sort of app<\/a>eared at the last minute, which really turned out to be something special.\u201d<\/p>\n

One cameo-heavy scene includes En Vogue and Salt-N-Pepa flipping their 1993 hit \u201cWhatta Man\u201d into \u201cWhatta King.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201c \u2018Coming to America\u2019 was such an iconic film for us and such a milestone in African American culture,\u201d said En Vogue\u2019s Cindy Herron. \u201cSo when we got the call to participate in the film and come together and redo \u2018Whatta Man\u2019 with Salt-N-Pepa, we were just over the moon.\u201d<\/p>\n

Filming the scene on the top-secret set at Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta \u201cwas like walking into Zamunda,\u201d said Herron of the fictional African nation in which most of the film takes place. \u201cThe detail in the set design, the detail that they gave to the costumes \u2014 everything was so exquisite. And then you had all this talent.\u201d<\/p>\n

Of course, that star-studded talent included Salt-N-Pepa, who made it \u201cWhatta\u201d reunion. \u201cSalt-N-Pepa bring it! Those girls are queens,\u201d said Herron. \u201cAll of us together, it just felt like, \u2018Oh, my God, the girl power right now!\u2019 \u201d<\/p>\n

As if that weren\u2019t enough, in the same scene there\u2019s also a musical cameo from the legendary Gladys Knight, who turns \u201cMidnight Train to Georgia\u201d into \u201cMidnight Train From Zamunda.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was conceived in sort of a conference-room setting,\u201d said Spendlove. \u201cWhen it was actually happening, people were just laughing so hard. You can imagine everybody rolling on the floor. It was really just one of those magical days on the set.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, R&B star Teyana Taylor \u2014 who plays Bopoto in the film \u2014 puts her own sexy spin on Prince\u2019s \u201cGett Off.\u201d\u00a0 \u201cOnce again, the power of \u2018Coming to America\u2019 [means] you can go after a Prince song,\u201d said Spendlove.<\/p>\n

And in a nostalgic nod to royal servant Oha (Paul Bates)\u00a0singing \u201cShe\u2019s Your Queen to Be\u201d in the original, the character busts out his pitchy falsetto once again on \u201cGett Off.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cEverything was done with a real heartfelt intention to honor movie one,\u201d said Spendlove.<\/p>\n

That included updating the title song \u201cComing to America.\u201d\u00a0Nile Rodgers, who produced the System\u2019s original, returns to do a fresh take on the tune. \u201cHe said, \u2018What if we see if we can get John Legend to sing with Burna Boy and make it a global idea,\u201d said Spendlove. \u201cNile Rodgers helped pull that together.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nigeria\u2019s Burna Boy is one of many African artists represented in the film, on the soundtrack and on a companion album titled \u201cRhythms of Zamunda: Music Inspired by \u2018Coming 2 America.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was part of the DNA of this film, and it made sense,\u201d said Sipho Dlamini, CEO of Universal Music South Africa and Sub-Saharan South Africa, who worked on the inclusion of African talent. \u201cThis time around, there\u2019s a chance to bring artists from the continent who have amazing sounds, rhythms and tones that celebrate the diversity of culture that is Africa.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
