He left, no apology.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gorman, who will celebrate her 23rd birthday Sunday, called the incident \u201cthe reality of black girls.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u201cOne day you\u2019re called an icon, the next day, a threat,\u201d she wrote in the tweet.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn a sense, he was right,\u201d Gorman said in another\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TheAmandaGorman\/status\/1368016803553710082\">tweet.<\/a>\u00a0\u201cI AM A THREAT: a threat to injustice, to inequality, to ignorance. Anyone who speaks the truth and walks with hope is an obvious and fatal danger to the powers that be.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0The Los Angeles native captivated viewers\u00a0during President Biden\u2019s swearing-in ceremony\u00a0with her moving rendition of \u201cThe Hill We Climb,\u201d a work about unity, healing and perseverance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen day comes, we ask ourselves, where can we find light in this never-ending shade?\u201d\u00a0Gorman began her inaugural poem.<\/p>\n<p>She continued: \u201cAnd yet, the dawn is ours before we knew it. Somehow we do it.
