A boy was critically injured after being struck by a firetruck on Staten Island, officials said.<\/p>\n

The crash occurred at Broad and Gordon Streets in the Stapleton section around 7:20 a.m. Saturday, the FDNY said.<\/p>\n

A source said the child may have been unattended and jumped out from behind a parked city bus while the FDNY truck was returning to quarters of Engine 153\/Ladder 77.<\/p>\n

The truck\u2019s driver was weeping after the incident, a worker at the nearby Island Food Market told The Post. <\/p>\n

\u201cThe driver was crying and the kid was laying on the floor,\u201d a distraught Jimmy Ahmed, 40, said. \u201cThere was a lot of sh-t going on. I was in the store and a lot of people were outside. I was was trying to see if I knew the kid\u2019s parents, but I\u2019ve never seen that kid before.\u201d<\/p>\n

The FDNY confirmed a department vehicle was involved in the accident, which is under investigation.<\/p>\n

The boy was taken to Richmond University Medical Center in critical condition, the NYPD said.<\/p>\n
