This week in Gold Digger, The Post\u2019s analysis of the battle for Academy Awards glory, we look at possible Best Actress front-runners.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"1_Frances_McDormand\"><\/span>1. At that final moment, you could feel the momentum shift in it and McDormand\u2019s direction. She\u2019s not a shoo-in \u2014 this is one of the most competitive categories of the year \u2014 but the vet has won at least 10 critics group prizes already.  And she\u2019s been named Best Actress at the Oscars twice before, in 1997 for \u201cFargo\u201d and in 2018 for \u201cThree Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.\u201d <\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"2_Viola_Davis\"><\/span>2. Her late co-star Chadwick Boseman, meanwhile, has been <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2021\/02\/28\/chadwick-bosemans-widow-accepts-2021-golden-globes-award\/\">sweeping up awards<\/a> left and right. But Davis has a compelling story at the Oscars, where, although she was nominated for \u201cThe Help\u201d in 2011, she has never won the Best Actress trophy. Add to that the admiration her long career commands, and she\u2019s in a dead heat with McDormand and Mulligan.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"3_Carey_Mulligan\"><\/span>3. But the chatter has dulled some, and Mulligan\u2019s chances will ultimately be determined by how well the film  fares in other categories.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"4_Andra_Day\"><\/span>4. Nobody saw it coming. Voting for Oscar nominations starts Friday, so this will give her chances a much-needed boost. One caveat: Individual Oscar categories are voted on by their associated groups \u2014 in this instance, actors vote for actors \u2014 to determine the nominees. Day did not receive a Screen Actors Guild nomination for the equivalent prize, which doesn\u2019t bode well. But each of the last three years, the Best Actress Oscar category has had one inconsistency with the SAG nominees, so she may live to see another Day.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"5_Vanessa_Kirby\"><\/span>5. Right when Netflix should have been aggressively campaigning for \u201cPieces of a Woman,\u201d a drama about losing a baby during childbirth, her co-star LaBeouf was <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2021\/02\/17\/fka-twigs-details-alleged-cycle-of-abuse-with-shia-labeouf\/\">sued by ex FKA twigs<\/a> for sexual battery and emotional distress. (He denies the allegations.)
