Traditional account recovery methods won\u2019t work if you lose access to your email account or alternative contact method. As a last resort, Facebook lets you set up a group of trusted contacts who can rescue your profile in case you are locked out in the future.<\/p>\n

To add a trusted contact to your Facebook account, visit the social network\u2019s website<\/a> on your Windows 10, Mac, or Linux desktop browser and log in to your account.<\/p>\n

Click the downward-facing arrow in the top-right corner of the website, then navigate to Settings & Privacy > Settings.<\/p>\n

Head into the \u201cSecurity and Login\u201d tab from the menu on the left.<\/p>\n

Once you\u2019ve picked your trusted contacts, click \u201cConfirm.\u201d<\/p>\n

This process doesn\u2019t require any verification from the contacts you\u2019ve selected, so you\u2019re all set.<\/p>\n

Now, when you\u2019re unable to access your account or can\u2019t reset the password through email, Facebook will offer you an option to generate a recovery code via your trusted contacts on the \u201cForgot Password\u201d page. You\u2019ll need a code from all your trusted contacts, so make sure that you only add people you\u2019re regularly in touch with.<\/p>\n

As an extra security measure, Facebook will ask you to enter the full name of one trusted contact. Therefore, it\u2019s best to note down the trusted contacts you\u2019ve configured in a safe location.<\/p>\n

If you\u2019d like to update your list of trusted contacts, you can return to the same \u201cSecurity and Login\u201d menu and click the \u201cEdit\u201d button beside the thumbnails of your trusted contacts.<\/p>\n
