“#Yankees ‘shocked’ by Aaron Boone’s return after heart scare<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

TAMPA \u2014 Aaron Boone went back to work Saturday, just three days after having a pacemaker inserted to address a low heart rate.<\/p>\n

The manager was at the Yankees\u2019 Player Development Complex on Saturday morning, while Gerrit Cole and Justin Wilson pitched live batting practice. The team then headed to Bradenton, Fla., to face the Pirates at LECOM Park, with Boone in the dugout.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt felt good just to be at the ball field again, competing with the guys,\u2019\u2019 Boone said following the Yankees\u2019 3-2, seven-inning loss to the Pirates. \u201cI felt really good. It was a wet day, and I\u2019m glad we were able to get in and get guys the work they needed. Overall, it just felt really good to get back out [there].\u201d<\/p>\n

While some of his players were \u201csurprised\u201d and \u201cshocked\u201d by Boone\u2019s quick return, his father was not.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s a Boone,\u2019\u2019 Bob Boone told The Post about why his son was so determined to get going again. \u201cThat\u2019s how we do it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bob Boone, in Florida this spring in his role as senior adviser to the general<\/a> manager with the Nationals, was in constant contact with his son throughout the process that led to the procedure.<\/p>\n

\u201cAny time it\u2019s the heart, you say \u2018Whoa,\u2019 \u2019\u2019 Bob Boone said. \u201cHe\u2019d never mentioned that he was feeling anything beforehand. It was very scary for my wife and I as it was happ<\/a>ening, but Aaron was calm and confident the whole time. \u2026 He called me afterwards and said it was the best he\u2019d felt in six months.\u201d<\/p>\n

Aaron Boone called being back with his team \u201cgreat\u201d following Wednesday\u2019s procedure \u2014 which he said left him feeling more energetic than he had been in months \u2014 and required COVID-19 tests. \u201cIt was good to come watch Gerrit Cole pitch. That\u2019s always a good way to get back into it.\u201d<\/p>\n

The timing caught his team off guard, with many not expecting him to return until Sunday\u2019s home game<\/a> at Steinbrenner Field, at the earliest.<\/p>\n
