Orval Faubus used that state\u2019s National Guard to prevent black children from attending the school to which they were entitled (\u201cLift the Charter Cap Now,\u201d Editorial, March 3).<\/p>\n<p>Now, over 60 years later, The Post is asking that the number of charter schools in New York state be increased. These are schools to which thousands of black children seek entry.<\/p>\n<p>If the Legislature fails to lift the cap, black children will be blocked from getting the quality education they and their parents desire and deserve.<\/p>\n<p>We need our elected representatives to stand strong for children. The educations of black children matter.<\/p>\n<p><em>Anthony Daddiego<\/em><br \/><em>Flushin<\/em>g<br \/><em><br \/><\/em><strong>Give kids choice<br \/><\/strong>Josh Hammer\u2019s insight into the codified racism of the American affirmative-action admissions case that is now before the Supreme Court helps direct us to the root cause of education disparity (\u201cEnd real racism,\u201d PostOpinion, Feb. 27).<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s not the color of one\u2019s skin, but one\u2019s ZIP code and opportunity (or lack thereof) for school choice that determines readiness for college.<\/p>\n<p>Parochial, charter and selection schools <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">general<\/a>ly and noticeable outperform inner-city public schools (and cost less per student).<\/p>\n<p>Give inner-city kids a choice, too. Let the tax dollars spent on the student go to their choice of schools with a voucher to a charter, parochial or other school when they meet the criteria.<\/p>\n<p>Competition raises standards of living and will raise performance of public schools as well.<\/p>\n<p><em>Deirdre Harvey<\/em><br \/><em>Valley Stream<br \/><\/em><br \/><strong>School hypocrite<br \/><\/strong>Kudos to California teachers-union head Matt Meyer for having the chutzpah not to resign after being revealed as a hypocrite for blocking students from \u201cunsafe\u201d public schools while his child attends private school (\u201cUnion chief\u2019s open-school nix \u2014 except for his kid,\u201d March 2).<\/p>\n<p>One has to wonder if this self-serving duplicitous behavior is occurring in other liberal cities, where politicians and power-brokers shut down public schools and then immunize their own children from the toxic effects of their actions.<\/p>\n<p><em>David Charak<br \/>Boca Raton, Fla.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Stop horse abuse<br \/><\/strong>As a resident of the Upper West Side and an animal lover, my heart breaks when I see carriage horses being driven through traffic every day (\u201cCarriage horse had genetic disease: vet,\u201d March 1).<\/p>\n<p>When I read about the horses crashing into vehicles, running wildly through traffic, collapsing on the street and sometimes dropping dead, I get angry that this still goes on in my city.<\/p>\n<p>Lee Brown\u2019s article about carriage horse Aysha\u2019s autopsy results reinforced what was already obvious: Sick, suffering horses are being forced into hard labor, and as a New Yorker, I want it to end.<\/p>\n<p>I call on my City Council ember, Helen Rosenthal, and Mayor de Blasio to stop the abuse of these horses.<\/p>\n<p><em>Kiera Canciani<\/em><br \/><em>Manhattan<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Alzheimer\u2019s hope<br \/><\/strong>My sincere thanks to Rich Lowry in sharing his love and affection for his mom (\u201cMy Mother, Unbowed,\u201d PostOpinion, March 3).<\/p>\n<p>Lowry shared the heavy hearts of families who have endured or are enduring the ravages of Alzheimer\u2019s. He brought such dignity to such tragedy in a truly humane manner.<\/p>\n<p>His uplifting story can be shared by many, regardless of their suffering.
