The loyal subjects of Queen Elizabeth II won\u2019t get to see the full broadcast of Oprah Winfrey\u2019s two-hour interview<\/a> with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry until Monday evening UK time \u2014 19 hours after it airs in the US. But many of them, it seems, won\u2019t even bother.<\/p>\n

A recent poll<\/a> by The Sun news<\/a>paper found that 50 percent of Britons won\u2019t tune in. Meanwhile, a survey by YouGov<\/a> revealed that 46 percent think it\u2019s inapp<\/a>ropriate of the couple to do a bombshell tell-all less than a year after the official \u201cMegxit\u201d date of April 1, 2020.<\/p>\n

\u201cI won\u2019t watch. It\u2019s blatant disrespect to the monarchy and, as Meghan has just confirmed, it\u2019s always been in the cards for her,\u201d one mixed-race woman from Manchester, England, told The Post. (She asked to withhold her name for fear of being trolled online by Meghan supporters.) \u201cIt\u2019s pre-planned from years ago and it\u2019s her end game<\/a>.\u201d She\u2019s referring to the duchess\u2019s recollection, in one of the released clips, of telling Oprah in February or March 2018 that she might later consider a recorded conversation with the media<\/a> maven at \u201cthe right time.\u201d<\/p>\n

The will-you-watch surveys were carried out before news broke that Harry\u2019s 99-year-old grandfather, Prince Philip, had undergone heart surgery Wednesday at a London hospital \u2014\u00a0another reason why Brits think the timing is inappropriate<\/a>. (The Duke and Duchess of Sussex told the Daily Mail that it is up to CBS, not them, when to air the special.)<\/p>\n

\u201cThe British public are horrified by the interview,\u201d Ingrid Seward,<\/a> editor-in-chief of \u201cMajesty\u201d magazine, told The Post. \u201cThe mere thought of these two incredibly privileged people sitting in the California sunshine moaning about their lot does not appeal.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople have been dying, Britain is in lockdown and we\u2019re in the worst financial crisis we\u2019ve ever had.\u00a0 It\u2019s really so much better to say nothing if you\u2019re dissatisfied.\u201d<\/p>\n

In other words, follow the monarchy\u2019s famous old-school motto: \u201cNever complain, never explain.\u201d<\/p>\n

Seward is not the only prominent royal commentator<\/a> to hold that opinion. Her views are shared by Wesley Kerr, a former BBC court correspondent and the first black reporter to be hired by the corporation.<\/p>\n

Noting that Meghan and Harry are \u201claunching themselves on the West Coast celeb circuit, which is their right,\u201d he told The Post: \u201cI suppose they need to differentiate their untested brand.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kerr added: \u201cThere are other, more enduring values on this side of the pond. I\u2019m not sure that what\u2019s claimed in California is always central to the British national conversation.\u201d<\/p>\n

Journalists like him aside, there are plenty of other people of color in Blighty who have issues with the Sussex clan \u2014 especially when they call Britons out for being racist.<\/p>\n

The anonymous Mancunian said that around 70 percent of her black friends \u201cstarted off loving [Harry and Meghan], but got tired of the drama very quickly.\u201d<\/p>\n

A self-described \u201croyal watcher,\u201d she enthusiastically watched the pair\u2019s May 2018 wedding with her mom and sister on TV, throwing what she described as an \u201cafternoon tea-themed party\u201d during the nuptials.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was so excited about a woman of color joining the royal family,\u201d said the healthcare worker. \u201cI thought she\u2019d add something different and was looking forward to her taking on patronages to do with the BAME communities as Prince Charles has done.\u201d (BAME, or black Asian minority ethnic, is commonly used in the UK.)<\/p>\n

Her hopes were dashed, however, when Meghan, who suffered a culture shock, \u201chandled it totally wrong,\u201d leaving her job as a working member of \u201cThe Firm\u201d \u2014 the nickname for the Buckingham Palace machine \u2014 less than two years in.<\/p>\n

\u201cInstead of trying it the royal way, she wanted to branch out and change the way the monarchy worked,\u201d said the Mancunian. \u201cShe wanted to do things her way \u2014 not exactly a bad thing \u2014 but forgot it is an old institution which can\u2019t be changed overnight.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 26-year-old now believes the duke and duchess have \u201cbetrayed\u201d the royal family by attacking them, \u201cgiving out personal details from talks with the queen,\u201d and sending out \u201cvery harmful and bitter statements.\u201d<\/p>\n

Worst of all is the upcoming interview with Oprah.<\/p>\n

As for racism, the woman \u2014\u00a0who belongs to the social media group #TeamRoyalty \u2014 is concerned that the rest of the world, especially America, might perceive the UK as \u201cwholly racist\u201d due to the harassment claims by Harry and Meghan.<\/p>\n

\u201cBritain has race issues, 100 percent, and that\u2019s not going to go away any time soon. But every country in the world has race issues,\u201d she said. \u201cBut the issue with Meghan and Harry isn\u2019t wholly a racism problem. They\u2019ve over-simplified it into one box and that box is a hot topic right now.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMeghan, who doesn\u2019t have any emotional links to the monarchy, will walk away without any regret,\u201d the woman said. \u201cHarry will be the bearer of the guilt.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
