{"id":196439,"date":"2021-03-07T23:24:40","date_gmt":"2021-03-07T20:24:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/disney-faces-competition-as-rivals-ramp-up-animation-production\/"},"modified":"2021-03-07T23:24:40","modified_gmt":"2021-03-07T20:24:40","slug":"disney-faces-competition-as-rivals-ramp-up-animation-production","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/disney-faces-competition-as-rivals-ramp-up-animation-production\/","title":{"rendered":"#Disney faces competition as rivals ramp up animation production"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#Disney faces competition as rivals ramp up animation production<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Everyone in Hollywood these days seems to be vying for Disney\u2019s crown as the king of animation.<\/p>\n<p>Tinseltown has gone animation crazy in the wake of the pandemic, which has stalled live action production and accelerated demand for family-friendly content that can be streamed at home. <\/p>\n<p>Studios are now plowing money into making cartoons like never before \u2014 despite knowing that toppling the creator of Mickey Mouse and \u201cFrozen\u201d will be tricky, if not impossible, sources said.   <\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll the streamers wanted animated shows to brand their networks, but the pandemic has made it even more so. Everyone is doubling down,\u201d said Titmouse founder and president Chris Prynoski, who has worked on shows like MTV\u2019s\u00a0\u201cBeavis and Butthead\u201d and Nickelodeon\u2019s \u201cBaby Shark\u2019s Big Show!\u201d  <\/p>\n<p>Animation deals are \u201cexploding,\u201d added a dealmaker with a top Hollywood agency who has also seen budgets for animated content balloon. Before the rise of streaming, animated budgets were between $350,000 and $750,000 per episode. Now, some shows have budgets of over $5 million, said the source.  <\/p>\n<p>Netflix has made no bones about its efforts to challenge Disney in the animation space. \u201cWe\u2019re very fired up about catching them [Disney] in family animation \u2014 maybe eventually passing them, we\u2019ll see, a long way to go just to catch them \u2014 and maintaining our lead in <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">general<\/a> entertainment that\u2019s so stimulating,\u201d Netflix founder and co-Chief Executive Officer Reed Hastings said in January. <\/p>\n<p>But it\u2019s not just Netflix that\u2019s eager to chip away at Disney\u2019s market share. HBO Max, Paramount+ and Amazon Prime Video, just to name a few, have also jumped headlong into race as the pandemic strangles other forms of film and TV production. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote alignright\">\n<blockquote><p>Before the rise of streaming, animated budgets were between $350,000 and $750,000 per episode. Now, some shows have budgets of over $5 million, said the source.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/figure>\n<p>And it\u2019s a trend that\u2019s expected to last for years to come \u2014 even after the pandemic ends \u2014 as Hollywood studios vie for family-friendly material to help them win the streaming wars.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it\u2019s going to be a really interesting next couple of years in the animation industry,\u201d said Sam Register, president of Warner Bros. Animation and Cartoon Network studios. \u201cWe all have great content. We all have great IP [intellectual property]. We all have studios. I don\u2019t think any one company is absolutely a projected dominant player in this space.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But experts see the Bob Chapek-led Disney maintaining its perch, thanks to the decades it\u2019s spent building its library of animated content and intellectual property, as well as its solid reputation for providing family entertainment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDisney has that platinum brand,\u201d said <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a> analyst Michael Nathanson of MoffettNathanson. \u201cEven if there\u2019s a little bit of share loss\u201d it will stay on top, he predicted. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor the other products, HBO Max, Paramount+, you have to convince people, who are new to those brands, that those brands stand for kids entertainment,\u201d he said.  <\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s more room to compete in adult animation, Nathanson added. <\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s one reason AT&amp;T\u2019s new streaming service HBO Max \u2014 buttressed by its Warner Bros. studio \u2014 paid over $500 million for the streaming rights to raunchy cartoon \u201cSouth Park\u201d ahead of its May 2020 launch.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This year, the studio run by Jason Kilar\u2019s WarnerMedia also scored a family-friendly animated hit with its \u201cTom &amp; Jerry\u201d movie starring Chloe Grace Moretz, which debuted in cinemas and on HBO Max simultaneously last month. And in March it will debut the adult animated series \u201cInvisible\u201d by \u201cThe Walking Dead\u201d creator Robert Kirkman. <\/p>\n<p>The Jeff Bezos-led streamer has also invested in a slew of children\u2019s programs, including \u201cPete the Cat\u201d and \u201cLost in Oz,\u201d as well as licensed shows like \u201cDora the Explorer\u201d and \u201cSpongeBob SquarePants.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Netflix, which launched its animation studio in 2018, has made the biggest strides by far in both family and adult animation.
