Stuck at home during the pandemic, BTS created \u201cDynamite\u201d and released the song to their isolated fans as a gift. Now, the gift has returned to them \u2014 in the form of their first Grammy nomination.<\/p>\n

\u201cA lot of people were sad and down and out because of the COVID situation and it was sort of our suggestion to pick (everyone) up,\u201d Jin said in an interview this week with The Associated Press.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe were supposed to do the whole stadium tour all over the world. There was no plan to release a single like \u2018Dynamite,’\u201d RM explained. \u201c\u2018Dynamite\u2019 gave us huge success in Korea, of course, a 2021 Grammy Award nomination, a performance, so you know, life is really interesting.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cDynamite\u201d became BTS\u2019 first No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart when it was released last year. After years of logging Top 40 hits and selling out arenas and stadiums, the seven-member collective is competing for best pop duo\/group performance and will also perform at Sunday\u2019s show.<\/p>\n

BTS is the first K-pop act to compete at the Grammys.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s really hard to express in words,\u201d Jimin said of the nomination. \u201cEven now we can\u2019t still believe that we were nominated, and we\u2019ll be able to perform at the Grammys. So, we\u2019re thankful. We\u2019re honored.\u201d<\/p>\n

BTS\u2019 explosive hit will battle another No. 1 smash \u2014 Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande\u2019s \u201cRain on Me\u201d \u2014 as well as Top 10 successes like Taylor Swift and Bon Iver\u2019s \u201cexile\u201d and Justin Bieber and Quavo\u2019s \u201cIntentions.\u201d J Balvin, Bad Bunny and Dua Lipa\u2019s \u201cUn Dia (One Day),\u201d which topped the Billboard Hot Latin songs chart, rounds out the five nominees.<\/p>\n

\u201cI always listen to \u2018Rain on Me.\u2019 It\u2019s so great to listen to that song on the treadmill. It was a hit. It was fire last year,\u201d RM said. \u201cAnd, of course, \u2018Intentions,\u2019 \u2018Exile\u2019 was crazy. And J Balvin and Dua Lipa.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re nervous and actually, frankly, we\u2019re not expecting (to win) so much because we don\u2019t want to get disapp<\/a>ointed because Lady Gaga, Taylor, Bieber, all the big names (are nominated). So, we\u2019re kind of confused. It\u2019s like rollercoaster \u2014 back and forth, back and forth, up and down.\u201d<\/p>\n

Their Grammy performance will mark their second on the major awards show \u2014 they assisted Lil Nas X when he sang \u201cOld Town Road\u201d last year. Sunday\u2019s performance follows the recent airing of \u201cMTV Unplugged Presents: BTS,\u201d which featured BTS covering Coldplay\u2019s popular rock ballad, \u201cFix You.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a tweet \u2014 in Korean \u2014 Coldplay called BTS\u2019 rendition \u201cbeautiful.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cColdplay came to Korea about three years ago for a big concert and me and J-Hope went to their concert and we watched \u2018Fix You\u2019 at that time\u2019 and it meant so much,\u201d RM recalled. \u201cHopefully we can work with them, or maybe have a meeting and sip some tea or coffee or anything. We love Coldplay.\u201d<\/p>\n

The IFPI, the organization that represents the global recording industry, said last week that BTS was the best-selling act of 2020.<\/p>\n

The band is currently working on new music \u2014 as a group and soloists. They said the Grammy nomination does create some pressure for the next batch of songs they produce, but they\u2019re not letting the success get to their heads.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe try to stay down to earth and put our feet to the ground and do what we do,\u201d RM said.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
