\n A Massachusetts police detective who posted a photo of her niece at a Black Lives Matter protest \u2014 holding a sign that advocated shooting police officers \u2014 has been fired, according to a new report.<\/p>\n

Rookie Springfield detective Florissa Fuentes \u2014 who had just joined the department last year \u2014 was fired last month, weeks after she posted the image to her personal Instagram page while off-duty, The Republican reported.<\/p>\n

The photo, taken at a protest in Atlanta on May 29 \u2014 four days after George Floyd was killed at the hands of police in Minneapolis \u2014 shows Fuentes\u2019 niece protesting in Atlanta, holding a sign with the message, \u201cShoot the F\u2013k Back,\u201d according to the report.<\/p>\n

A friend\u2019s sign reads: \u201cWho do we call when the murderer wears the badge?\u201d<\/p>\n

Fuentes posted the photo on May 30, quickly setting off a firestorm.<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter I posted it, I started getting calls and texts from co-workers,\u201d Fuentes told the paper. \u201cI was initially confused, but then I realized they thought I was being anti-cop. I wasn\u2019t. I was just supporting my niece\u2019s activism. I had no malicious intent, and I wouldn\u2019t put a target on my own back. I\u2019m out there on the streets every day like everyone else.\u201d<\/p>\n

Capt. Trent Duda, head of the Detective Bureau, wrote her up for a \u201cpossible\u201d social media<\/a> violation.<\/p>\n

Fuentes removed the post and said she took advice from the Springfield Police Patrolmen\u2019s Association president, Officer Joseph Gentile, to post an apology on the union\u2019s Facebook page.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo my fellow officers, I recently shared a post that a family member had posted of themselves protesting the recent death of George Floyd,\u201d she wrote, according to the report.<\/p>\n

\u201cI did not share this photo with any malicious intent and I should have thought of how others might perceive it. I apologize to all of those who I have offended. I am not anti-cop. I wear my badge proudly and have committed my life and career to being a police officer.\u201d<\/p>\n

But that apology was met with even more vitriol, according to the paper.<\/p>\n

Police Commissioner Cheryl Clapp<\/a>rood fired her from the force on June 19.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat post was hurtful to many of her co-workers,\u201d Clapprood told the outlet, adding that Fuentes was still on probation and the social media post marked her second issue during her time with the department.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
