\n Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick said this week that he will stop listening to Dr. Anthony Fauci \u2014 who he claimed \u201cdoesn\u2019t know what he\u2019s talking about\u201d amid a recent uptick in new coronavirus cases in the Lone Star State.<\/p>\n

\u201cFauci said today that he\u2019s concerned about states like Texas that skipped over certain things,\u201d Patrick said during a Tuesday evening app<\/a>earance on Fox News<\/a>\u2019 \u201cThe Ingraham Angle.\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe doesn\u2019t know what he\u2019s talking about. We haven\u2019t skipped over anything. The only thing I\u2019m skipping over is listening to him.\u201d<\/p>\n

He was referring to comments made by the country\u2019s leading infectious disease specialist earlier in the day during a Senate Hearing, in which he suggested that some states reopened too soon.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve got to make sure that when states start to try and open again, they need to follow the guidelines that have been very carefully laid out, with regard to checkpoints,\u201d Fauci said, according to The Texas Tribune. \u201cWhat we\u2019ve seen in several states are different iterations of that, perhaps maybe in some going too quickly and skipping over some of the checkpoints.\u201d<\/p>\n

The \u201ccheckpoints\u201d refer to criteria that states are encouraged to satisfy related to case numbers, testing and hospital capacity, before gradually reopening their economies.<\/p>\n

But Patrick declared that Fauci, part of the White House coronavirus task force, \u201chas been wrong every time, on every issue.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t need his advice anymore,\u201d Patrick added. \u201cWe\u2019ll listen to a lot of science<\/a>, we\u2019ll listen to a lot of doctors, and [Gov. Greg Abbott], myself and other state leaders will make the decision. No thank you, Dr. Fauci.\u201d<\/p>\n

Last week, amid a recent rise in new infections, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott ordered bars in the state to close and restaurants to go down to half capacity.<\/p>\n

As of Thursday afternoon, Texas had reported 172,486 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and at least 2,503 deaths, according to Johns Hopkins University.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
