Since the release of 2014\u2019s hit action film John Wick<\/em>,\u00a0Chad Stahelski<\/strong> has kept a pretty modest profile, at least compared to his\u00a0John Wick<\/em> co-director and\u00a0fellow former stunt coordinator David Leitch. In the past seven years, Stahelski has strictly stuck to directing the\u00a0John Wick\u00a0<\/em>movies<\/a>, with the occasional dalliance as a second-unit director or uncredited stunt coordinator in films like\u00a0Birds of Prey<\/em>. A few new films were announced, though no new features have made their way to the big screen yet. But Stahelski is starting to venture beyond the shadowy world of Wick to helm a new action-thriller for New Line called\u00a0Classified<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Deadline broke the news<\/a> that New Line has picked up the action-thriller package\u00a0Classified<\/em>, with\u00a0John Wick: Parabellum<\/em> director Chad Stahelski attached to direct.
\nPenned by\u00a0Andrew Deutschman and Jason Pagan (Project Almanac<\/em>, Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension<\/em>),\u00a0Classified<\/em> is described as a \u201chigh octane, cat-and-mouse thriller, in the vein of \u2018Die Hard\u2019 meets \u2018Indiana Jones,\u2019 set inside a top secret government bunker that contains relics covertly recovered during World War II \u2014 that turn out to be more powerful and dangerous than ever imagined,\u201d per The Wrap<\/a>.<\/p>\n

This would not be the first non-John Wick<\/em> project that Stahelski has been announced to be helming. In 2016, Stahelski signed on to reboot the\u00a0Highlander<\/em> franchise, though the project has been long in the works and could potentially turn into a TV series. In 2017, it was announced that Stahelski would be directing an adaptation of the comic book\u00a0Kill or Be Killed<\/em>. In 2018, it was to helm the film\u00a0Analog<\/em>. And of course, amidst all this, Stahelski is preparing to shoot the fourth installment of the\u00a0John Wick<\/em> franchise, after directing the first three films. It\u2019s unclear at what stages in development all of Stahelski\u2019s various projects are, but it seems like\u00a0Classified<\/em> is another one that can be added to the list.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a bit of a shame that Stahelski doesn\u2019t have as big a profile as Leitch. Leitch has been bouncing from blockbuster to blockbuster, helming\u00a0Hobbes & Shaw<\/em> and now setting up the star-studded\u00a0Bullet Train<\/em>. But Leitch\u2019s post-Wick<\/em> efforts have been middling at best, forgettable junk at worst, suggesting that Stahelski was the real magic sauce behind the\u00a0John Wick<\/em> films. Perhaps Stahelski wants to devote his time to the\u00a0John Wick<\/em> universe before moving on to bigger things, which is fair \u2014 in addition to the films, there are multiple feature and TV spin-offs in the works too. I\u2019d rather see the\u00a0John Wick<\/em> franchise end with a bang rather than a whimper.<\/p>\n
