Meghan Markle\u2019s former \u201cSuits\u201d co-star Wendell Pierce said he was not attacking his forever friend in his\u00a0recent tirade over the Oprah Winfrey TV special\u00a0\u2014 but the \u201carchaic\u201d and \u201cracist\u201d British monarchy.<\/p>\n

Pierce \u2014 who played Markle\u2019s dad on the TV drama \u2014 raised eyebrows in a radio interview in which he ripped the\u00a0royal Oprah sit-down as \u201cinsignificant,\u201d \u201cinsensitive and offensive\u201d and \u201cfull of sound and fury, signifying nothing.\u201d<\/p>\n

But in a series<\/a> of tweets Tuesday night, he explained that his comments the previous day were not intended as an attack on the Duchess of Sussex.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was fortunate to tell Meghan personally I wish her all the best. Predicting this hellacious maelstrom, I also told her she would always have a friend in me,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n

\u201cBecause I had no interest in the interview doesn\u2019t change that,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Instead, Pierce attacked the royal family, suggesting that at least some of the horrors his friend detailed were not a surprise.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe British monarchy is archaic in my American eyes. If slavery, colonialism and apartheid didn\u2019t educate you that they are racist, you failed history,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n

The 57-year-old actor \u2014 who also starred in the hit series \u201cThe Wire\u201d \u2014 stressed that he was not being \u201cinsensitive to suicide\u201d in dismissing the interview in which the duchess had admitted she \u201cdidn\u2019t want to be alive\u00a0anymore\u201d while feeling trapp<\/a>ed in the royal family.<\/p>\n

\u201cUnfortunately, my family has suffered the pain of losing someone to suicide,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs I told Meghan, I support her and wish her all the best.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
