Let\u2019s take a look.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Whats_Roblox\"><\/span>What\u2019s Roblox?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Roblox is an online <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/game\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"7\" title=\"Game\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">game<\/a> platform where you can create your own games and play games made by others \u2014 think of it as a Minecraft competitor.<span>The title has been around for a long while; the first PC version<\/span>\u00a0was released in 2006.<\/p>\n<p>The company released versions for iOS, Android, and Xbox, in 2012, 2014, and 2015 respectively. The idea is to have your own avatar, make friends, buy clothes, and customize <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>earances<span>and customize your appearance while playing and creating games using elements available in the expansive environment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>One of the ways Roblox is known in pop culture is its iconic \u201coof\u201d sound when a player dies. The company had to discontinue briefly that sound because of a copyright dispute with the composer. However, last November both parties came to an agreement, but game developers <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/technology-54902039\">had to pay $1 to include that sound<\/a> in their creations.<\/p>\n<p>While the game has been steadily receiving more\u00a0attention over the last decade or so, the COVID-19 pandemic fuelled its popularity rapidly. A report from CNBC published last April notes\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2020\/04\/08\/roblox-is-seeing-a-surge-during-coronavirus-shelter-in-place.html\">the game saw a massive 40% surge<\/a> in usage in March 2020.<\/p>\n<p>Last June, the game also added new features such <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2020\/7\/21\/21333431\/roblox-over-half-of-us-kids-playing-virtual-parties-fortnite\">as virtual private birthday parties and social gatherings<\/a> for kids and their relatives to hang out safely in the online world. In November, famed artist <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LilNasX\/status\/1326170835485253632?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1326170835485253632%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.theverge.com%2F2020%2F11%2F10%2F21557275%2Flil-nas-x-roblox-virtual-performance-announced-holiday-old-town-road\">Lil Nas X held a virtual concert<\/a> on the game platform \u2014 just like <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.epicgames.com\/fortnite\/en-US\/news\/astronomical\">Travis Scott on <em>Fortnite<\/em><\/a>.<br \/>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Roblox | Official Trailer (2020)\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/eAvXhNlO-rA?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_did_it_reach_the_IPO_stage\"><\/span>How did it reach the IPO stage?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>In February 2020, the company raised <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/venturebeat.com\/2020\/02\/26\/roblox-raises-150-million-round-led-by-andreessen-horowitz\/\">$150 million from Andreessen Horowitz<\/a> with a valuation of $4 billion.<\/p>\n<p>According to analytics firm SensorTower, users downloaded the game 159.6 million times from the App Store and Play Store last year, registering a 43% year-on-year growth. It was also the highest-earning mobile game in the US during the holiday season with $6.6 million gross revenue.<\/p>\n<p>All of this led to its newest financing round in January, where it held a direct listing offering (DPO), allowing existing investors to sell some shares. The company <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/venturebeat.com\/2021\/01\/06\/roblox-raises-520-million-at-29-5-billion-valuation-will-go-public-through-direct-listing\/\">raised $520 million<\/a>\u00a0trough this round at a valuation of a whopping $29.5 billion.<\/p>\n<p>Roblox initially decided to go public in December, but delayed it and decided to hold a DPO first.
