But we shouldn\u2019t forget that as <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/technology\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"Technology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">technology<\/a> develops and gets more advanced, cars are also getting safer.<\/p>\n<p>This case in point was made today in a windy Amsterdam when a tree fell on a Jaguar i-Pace EV, and left it totally unfazed as two other cars \u2014 an Audi and Mercedes \u2014 took the brunt of the tree\u2019s branches.<\/p>\n<p>                <iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/fast.wistia.net\/embed\/iframe\/epvmxh57cx?videoFoam=true&amp;autoplay=true&amp;silentAutoPlay=true\" title=\"Bumper 06 Video\" allow=\"autoplay; fullscreen\" allowtransparency=\"true\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" class=\"wistia_embed\" name=\"wistia_embed\" allowfullscreen=\"\" msallowfullscreen=\"\" width=\"100%\" height=\"100%\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Hello from the other side <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/EX2ukbQkXI\">pic.twitter.com\/EX2ukbQkXI<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Venz (@venz) <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/venz\/status\/1369977464743731203?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 11, 2021<\/a>\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>It seems the Audi\u2019s rear window has been smashed, but the Jaguar <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ears to have gotten away lightly.<\/p>\n<p>Sure, it doesn\u2019t look like the tree fell on the Jag with any great velocity. The tree seems to have been uprooted from the pavement right next to the i-Pace, so it didn\u2019t have far to fall before hitting it.<\/p>\n<p>But it still looks mighty impressive. Usually when you see pictures of trees fallen on cars, there isn\u2019t much left, but an insurance write off.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Jaguar_strength\"><\/span>Jaguar strength<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>I\u2019m no botanist, so I referred to this <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/maps.amsterdam.nl\/bomen\/?LANG=en\">tree map of Amsterdam<\/a>, which tells us this fallen wood is an elm tree.<\/p>\n<p>Now, according to the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wood-database.com\/american-elm\/\">wood-database.com<\/a>, dried elm <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">general<\/a>ly weighs 560\u00a0kg per cubic meter. It\u2019s hard to make a judgement on the volume of this particular Jaguar bothering tree, but it seems fair to estimate that it weighs well over 560 kg, especially given that it\u2019s not been dried.<\/p>\n<p>However much this tree actually weight, the i-Pace has barely been troubled by it.<\/p>\n<p>To protect passengers in the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/15850089\/\">event of roll-overs and dramatic crashes<\/a>, roofs are now capable of supporting at least the entire weight of the car itself. This <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/29927630\/\">2018 study<\/a> found that strong roofs greatly reduce severe injury and ejection risk in crashes. It also noted that modern cars\u2019 roofs are generally speaking, getting stronger every year.<\/p>\n<p>Given the i-Pace is over 2,000 kg, this tree is and will always be child\u2019s play in comparison.<\/p>\n<p>When it was released, the i-Pace was rated as one of the safest cars on the road. Vehicle safety testing company, Euro NCAP, gave the Jag its prestigious 5-star rating. You can <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cdn.euroncap.com\/media\/51349\/euroncap-2018-jaguar-i-pace-datasheet.pdf\">read a totally not boring 14-page report on that here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>No one wants a tree to fall on their car, but it\u2019s kind of nice to know that if it does happen, you\u2019re far safer now than ever before.<\/p>\n<p>It certainly looks striking to see a tree horizontally supported atop a car, but modern cars <em>are<\/em> incredibly strong.
