“#Grammy nominee Ingrid Andress rooting for Megan Thee Stallion<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

You know you stan hard for Megan Thee Stallion when you\u2019re rooting for her to beat you at the Grammys.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s how rising country star Ingrid Andress feels about her \u201cSavage\u201d competition for the prestigious Best New Artist award on Sunday night.<\/p>\n

\u201cI may or may not have voted for her,\u201d Andress, 29, told The Post, with a laugh.\u00a0\u201cShe\u2019s just, like, undeniably herself, and I respect that a lot. She just does her thing and [doesn\u2019t] care what anybody says. I\u2019m like, \u2018I\u2019m with you, sister!\u2019 \u201d<\/p>\n

While Andress will also be fangirling about fellow Best New Artist nominees Doja Cat and indie singer-songwriter Phoebe Bridgers, she\u2019s up for two other Grammys: Best Country Album for \u201cLady Like,\u201d her 2020 debut LP; and Best Country Song for her meet-the-family hit \u201cMore Hearts Than Mine.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI was not expecting anything, to be honest,\u201d said the singer-pianist, who \u201cwas alone in my house with my plants\u201d in Nashville, Tenn., when the nominations were announced in a livestream last November. \u201cIt was very mind-blowing to me.\u201d<\/p>\n

No doubt, she\u2019ll have more mind-blowing moments when she attends her first Grammys this weekend. Although the awards won\u2019t be the same this year because of COVID protocols \u2014 they\u2019ve been moved from the Staples Center arena to the smaller Los Angeles Convention Center, and there won\u2019t be any shoulder-rubbing happ<\/a>ening with social<\/a> distancing in place \u2014 Andress will be just happy to be there.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnything that\u2019s gonna happen, I\u2019m gonna think it\u2019s like the best thing in the world to just be able to be in an area with other musicians celebrating each other,\u201d she said. \u201cHowever that looks, I\u2019m down.\u201d<\/p>\n

Growing up in Denver, Andress discovered the \u201cmagic\u201d of country music from mix CDs that her friends would give her. <\/p>\n

\u201cThat was the first time that I heard the Chicks and Garth Brooks and Brad Paisley,\u201d she said, \u201cand I was just so fascinated with how the songs made me feel. I\u2019m like, \u2018I\u2019ve never even had a boyfriend before, and this song makes me feel like my heart just got broken.\u2019 Ever since then, I have been trying to figure out how that [connection] works and why. That\u2019s how I got into songwriting.\u201d<\/p>\n

Andress ended up attending Berklee College of Music after she stumbled upon the school while on the way to a World Series<\/a> game<\/a> at Boston\u2019s Fenway Park between the Red Sox and the Colorado Rockies, for whom her dad served as a strength and conditioning coach.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was just like, \u2018Oh, I didn\u2019t know there was such a thing as music colleges!\u2019 \u201d she said. \u201cAnd so I went in there, and I was like, \u2018Oh, I\u2019m gonna go here!\u2019 \u201d<\/p>\n

After graduating, she moved to Nashville and began writing for artists such as Charli XCX and Bebe Rexha<\/a>. Now, though, Andress is making noise for singing her own tunes.<\/p>\n

\u201cI always wanted to be an artist,\u201d she said, \u201cbut I needed to \u2026 really learn and understand \u2014 especially as a female in the music industry \u2014\u00a0 who I wanted to be and what I wanted to say.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
