\u201cStarboy\u201d is boycotting the Grammys.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Fueling the flames of war with the Recording Academy \u2014 ignited when the music institute failed to put Grammys 2021 nominations respect on his \u201cAfter Hours\u201d album this year \u2014 The Weeknd, 31, has vowed to never again attend the awards show.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cBecause of the secret committees, I will no longer allow my label to submit my music to the Grammys,\u201d the \u201cSave Your Tears\u201d singer said<\/a> in a statement to the New York Times Thursday.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Representatives for the singer did not reply to The Post\u2019s request for comment.<\/p>\n

The Weeknd\u2019s not-so-subtle middle finger to the Academy follows his calling the Grammys \u201ccorrupt\u201d in a tweet published just moments after he was inexplicably shut out from the 2021 nominations list.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Grammys remain corrupt. You owe me, my fans and the industry transparency\u2026\u201d the Canada-born crooner complained in November.\u00a0<\/p>\n

His certified platinum single \u201cBlinding Lights\u201d spent a record-breaking 43 weeks in the Top 5 and the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100, but failed to drum up any thumbs-up from the Grammys\u2019 voting committee.\u00a0<\/p>\n

During an interview with Billboard in January, the three-time Grammy winner flippantly said \u201cforget about awards,\u201d but compared the snub to a sucker punch.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI use a sucker punch as an analogy,\u201d he explained. \u201cBecause it just kind of hit me out of nowhere. I definitely felt\u2026 I felt things. I don\u2019t know if it was sadness or anger. I think it was just confusion. I just wanted answers. Like, \u2018What happ<\/a>ened?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Ahead of this year\u2019s announced nominees, The Weeknd \u2014 born Abel Makkonen Tesfaye \u2014 had been tapped to perform at the 63rd annual awards show.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWe were many weeks and dozens of calls in with the Grammy team around Abel\u2019s performance right up to the day of nominations being announced,\u201d the \u201cEarned It\u201d performer\u2019s manager, Wassim Slaiby, told the Times in an email.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWe were scratching our heads in confusion and wanted answers.\u201d<\/p>\n

Earlier this year, there was speculation that the Recording Academy axed The Weeknd\u2019s nods and performance after he signed on to rock the microphone during the Super Bowl half-time show in early February.\u00a0<\/p>\n

However Recording Academy chair and interim president\/CEO Harvey Mason Jr. denied those claims, saying<\/a> in a statement to Rolling Stone: \u201cUnfortunately, every year, there are fewer nominations than the number of deserving artists \u2026 To be clear, voting in all categories ended well before The Weeknd\u2019s performance at the Super Bowl was announced, so in no way could it have affected the nomination process.\u201d<\/p>\n

As for The Weeknd\u2019s latest decision to forgo the show from here on, \u201cWe\u2019re all disappointed when anyone is upset,\u201d Mason Jr. said in his statement.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut I will say that we are constantly evolving. And this year, as in past years, we are going to take a hard look at how to improve our awards process, including the nomination review committees,\u201d he added.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Weeknd joins a number of artists \u2014 including Justin Bieber<\/a>, Zayn Malik<\/a>, Drake, Kanye West and Frank Ocean \u2014 who have openly slammed the Recording Academy for its questionable exclusions.\u00a0\n <\/div>\n
