\n City politicians are covering themselves in shame in the current crisis.<\/p>\n

Take this loony tweet from City Councilman Mark Levine (D-Manhattan): \u201cIf there is a spike in coronavirus cases in the next two weeks, don\u2019t blame the protesters\u201d but rather \u201cracism\u201d and the NYPD: \u201cPolice are increasing covid risk by using tear gas and putting people in crowded jails.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tear gas is a last resort when demonstrators break the law \u2014 and jail is a foreseeable consequence of law-breaking. Protesters need to take responsibility for their actions.<\/p>\n

State Sen. John Liu (D-Queens), meanwhile, says that imposing a curfew \u201cwas like throwing gasoline on a fire.\u201d What planet is he on?<\/p>\n

Public Advocate Jumaane Williams has been holding public press conferences at 8:01 p.m. \u2014 an example to inspire protesters to defy the 8 p.m. curfew set to rein in looters and anarchists.<\/p>\n

And city Comptroller Scott Stringer has joined the Defund the NYPD movement with a call to shift $1.1 billion over the next four years away from the department to \u201ccommunities most impacted by police violence and structural racism.\u201d Yet he knows the city budget crisis leaves no cash to hike any spending.<\/p>\n

Outrage over the police killing of George Floyd is entirely merited. But the NYPD has spent years on training and other reforms, and on partnering with communities.<\/p>\n

There are far, far more victims of crime than victims of cops. Yet the progressive \u201cdefunders,\u201d from AOC on down, want fewer cops, as if that would make the streets safer.<\/p>\n

Does everyone who wins a New York election just turn off his or her brain?\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
