At Issues & Insights, the editors detail <\/a>how President Biden created the humanitarian crisis on the southern US border: He canceled \u201cconstruction of the border wall,\u201d \u201cjettisoned President Donald Trump\u2019s successful \u2018remain in Mexico\u2019 policy\u201d and \u201csuspended Trump\u2019s requirement that asylum seekers\u201d seek asylum in other countries they traverse first. He removed border agents\u2019 \u201cability to immedia<\/a>tely remove illegals\u201d to prevent the spread of COVID and \u201cissued new rules that cripple the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency\u2019s ability to arrest and deport illegals.\u201d Biden has \u201calso proposed the most sweeping amnesty for illegals in history.\u201d The issue isn\u2019t how Biden will deal with the illegal-migrant surge, but \u201cwhether anyone will force Biden to take responsibility for causing it in the first place.\u201d<\/p>\n

Pandemic journal: Biden\u2019s Wuhan-Lab Tightrope<\/strong><\/p>\n

President Biden is \u201cwalking a tightrope\u201d with China on the coronavirus\u2019 origin, reports Josh Rogin at Politico<\/a> \u2014 declining \u201cto endorse or dispute\u201d Team Trump\u2019s January allegations that Chinese researchers had COVID-like symptoms as early as autumn 2019 and Chinese scientists were working on secret projects with China\u2019s military. In a \u201clittle-noticed\u201d July study, Chinese researchers, including some linked to the Academy of Military Medical Science<\/a>, noted that they\u2019d created mice susceptible to the COVID-19 virus \u2014 which suggests they\u2019d been \u201cconducting coronavirus experiments\u201d well before the outbreak and never disclosed it. Officials now believe \u201cthere was a lot of risky coronavirus research going on in Chinese labs that the rest of the world was simply not aware of.\u201d<\/p>\n

Washington watch: Biden\u2019s $1.9 Trillion Oops<\/strong><\/p>\n

Democrats claim \u201cthe urgency of getting help\u201d to Americans harmed by the pandemic and lockdowns led them to pass President Biden\u2019s $1.9 trillion relief bill without Republican support, observes National Journal\u2019s Charlie Cook<\/a>. But Democrats brushed aside GOP offers to pass stand-alone measures on \u201ccore provisions,\u201d insisting instead on a massive bill with much spending not \u201cdirectly and immediately tied\u201d to the pandemic. By pushing it through \u201con such an acrimonious basis,\u201d Biden may have poisoned \u201cthe well ahead of future votes\u201d and \u201ccrippled his ability to do grand bargains.\u201d It\u2019s a \u201cserious error of judgment\u201d that \u201cmay plague this administration for a good while.\u201d<\/p>\n

Conservative: Ultra-Rich \u2018Victims\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n

President Biden, Jussie Smollett, Sen. Cory Booker are all members of the \u201cprogressive imaginarium,\u201d snarks Victor David Hanson at American Greatness<\/a>, where powerful people are supposedly oppressed by an irredeemably racist\/classist West. And Prince Harry and Meghan Markle took their membership to the next level: \u201cThe royal couple\u2019s new $15 million home is not far from Oprah\u2019s $90 million estate,\u201d yet in a recent interview with her, \u201cthe two detailed all the racial slights they suffered from the app<\/a>arently inveterate racist British royal family.\u201d Why does the upper crust like the imaginarium so much? Because \u201cthe professional classes and the rich are in a dilemma of needing to damn the inequity and nastiness of Western consumer capitalism, which they themselves have mastered.\u201d That is, \u201cbecause the West is a self-critical, affluent, tolerant and leisurely place, the number of the victimized has grown to far outnumber the vanishing pool of victimizers.\u201d<\/p>\n

Culture critic: Amazon\u2019s Un-American Book Ban<\/strong><\/p>\n

Amazon dominates the US book-selling industry, accounting for nearly 80 percent of all e-book sales, note the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette\u2019s editors<\/a>. So when it \u201cdisappears\u201d a title, as it recently did with gender-skeptical \u201cWhen Harry Became Sally,\u201d that book \u201call but vanishes from the marketplace of ideas.\u201d The firm clearly should \u201cwield its power with caution,\u201d yet Amazon\u2019s new guidelines warn that it will ban content \u201cwe determine is hate speech\u201d \u2014 \u201cvagueness\u201d that is just \u201ca smoke screen.\u201d Amazon \u201chas a right to remove anything it wants from its site.\u201d But \u201ccanceling a book is akin to a digital book burning: Instead of a match, it\u2019s a delete key.\u201d In short, \u201cit\u2019s difficult to portray Amazon\u2019s move as anything other than dangerously un-American.\u201d <\/p>\n
