The company expects it will start deploying the first 40 megahertz of spectrum by the end of 2021. <\/p>\n<p>C-band represents \u201cthe sweet spot in terms of coverage and speed\u201d when it comes to thinking about 5G, Chief <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/technology\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"Technology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Technology<\/a> Officer Andre Fuetsch told MarketWatch. While it will take time before AT&amp;T is able to access all of the mid-band spectrum it acquired in the latest auction and deploy it, Fuetsch said that the company was also working on other types of 5G deployments including fast millimeter-wave setups in some airports. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Read: Verizon spends $45 billion in major 5G spectrum auction, while AT&amp;T spends $23 billion<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The company projects that it will spend $6 billion to $8 billion in capital expenditures as it deploys this spectrum, with most of the spending coming from 2022 to 2024. <\/p>\n<p>AT&amp;T also expects that its fiber business will be in 3 million new customer locations by the end of this year. Fuetsch argued that fiber is more attractive now given people\u2019s increased reliance on connectivity within their homes and the expectation that bandwidth demands will only grow as things like 4K and even 8K video become more widespread. <\/p>\n<p>In addition, \u201cUpstream\u201d consumption, meaning uploads, is accelerating more quickly than \u201cdownstream\u201d consumption, or <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">download<\/a>s, Fuetsch said. Because fiber is a \u201csymmetrical network,\u201d it can transmit large amounts of capacity equally in both directions, according to Fuetsch.<\/p>\n<p>About 70% to 80% of connectivity demand for mobile devices like smartphones occurs when the devices are connected to WiFi via broadband, he said. \u201cHaving fast, secure broadband in our homes is really important because that\u2019s where we\u2019re doing the heaviest consumption.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"cx-membership-tile\"><\/div>\n<p>Cowen &amp; Co. analyst Colby Synesael wrote that \u201cperhaps more importantly\u201d than giving a projection for 3 million new fiber locations this year, AT&amp;T signaled on its investor-day call that it could increase that pace to 4 million new locations next year. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe longer-term cadence will depend on the observed success,\u201d Synesael wrote, though he said that AT&amp;T\u2019s management \u201csees bullish signals\u201d in things like take rate and forecasted demand driven by increased 4K TV adoption. <\/p>\n<p>The company is targeting a ratio of net debt to adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (Ebitda) of 3.0 times, which AT&amp;T says assumes an increase in net debt of roughly $6 billion to fund its recent spectrum purchases. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Don\u2019t miss: Why Verizon, AT&amp;T and T-Mobile just spent $80 billion in an auction, and what it will mean for 5G<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>AT&amp;T aims to lower that debt ratio to 2.5 times during 2024 by using \u201call cash flows after total dividends to pay down debt\u201d and looking for \u201copportunities to monetize non-strategic assets.\u201d AT&amp;T isn\u2019t planning to repurchase stock while it moves to lower its debt ratio. <\/p>\n<p>The company expects that it will \u201chave the flexibility to meet its 2021 financial commitments\u201d including dividend of almost $15 billion, spectrum payments of about $23 billion, gross capital investment of $21 billion and \u201ccontinued repayment of debt.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>AT&amp;T shares have lost 3.9% over the past three months as the S&amp;P 500<br \/>\n        SPX,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/210599714\/realtime\" class=\"positive\">+0.10%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       has risen 7.6%.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div class=\"byline article__byline\">\n<p>      <span>By<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"author  hasMenu\" data-scrim='{\"type\":\"author\",\"header\":\"Emily Bary\",\"subhead\":\"The Wall Street Journal\",\"list\":[]}' itemscope itemprop=\"author\" itemtype=\"http:\/\/schema.org\/Person\">\n<h4 itemprop=\"name\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Emily_Bary\"><\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/marketwatch.com\/author\/emily-bary?mod=MW_author_byline\">Emily Bary<\/a><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
