And all that mayhem is backed-up by a big, booming score courtesy of the very busy\u00a0<strong>Tom Holkenborg<\/strong>, AKA Junkie XL. When it came time to create music fit for two titans, Holkenborg knew he had to go big. So big, in fact, that he ended up using a gigantic drum \u2013 a drum so big he that he couldn\u2019t even fit it through his door. Below, you can hear two tracks from the\u00a0<em>Godzilla vs. Kong<\/em> soundtrack \u2013 and learn more about Tom Holkenborg\u2019s big-ass drum.<\/p>\n<p>First up, let\u2019s hear the theme for everyone\u2019s favorite monster-lizard, Godzilla. It\u2019s called \u201cPensacola, FL,\u201d which I guess suggests Godzilla has retired to the Sunshine State. Does that make Godzilla a #FloridaMan? Like the Godzilla theme, it\u2019s named after a place \u2013 Skull Island, a location that\u2019s just as dangerous and deadly as Florida.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Godzilla_vs_Kong_Soundtrack_%E2%80%93_Skull_Island_Kong_Theme\"><\/span><strong>Godzilla vs Kong Soundtrack \u2013 Skull Island\u00a0(Kong Theme)<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Godzilla vs Kong Official Soundtrack | Skull Island (Kong Theme) - Tom Holkenborg | WaterTower\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/2bqsWtBkUy8?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>I like the contrasts in these themes. Godzilla\u2019s is big, and angry, and kind of scary, while Kong\u2019s is a bit softer \u2013 heroic, even. Are they setting Kong up to be the hero of the film? I think so. He\u2019s earned it, damn it!<\/p>\n<p>When it came time to create this behemoth-style music, composer Tom Holkenborg knew he needed a\u00a0<em>big<\/em> sound. And he got it by commissioning a\u00a0<em>big<\/em> drum. Speaking with <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/collider.com\/godzilla-vs-kong-music-big-drum-tom-holkenborg-interview\/\">Collider<\/a>, Holkenborg said: \u201cI work with this incredible instrument maker from San Diego\u2026I was like, \u2018Now I need a bass drum. How big can you make it? Seven-foot? Eight-foot?\u2019 And he said, \u2018Well, there are limits to a drum.\u2019 And I said, \u2018Well, why is that?\u2019 He\u2019s like, \u2018Well, it depends on the biggest cow skin we can find.\u2019 I didn\u2019t even think about that. So, he found a big skin, and it turned out to be five feet in diameter. But boy, that thing is big.\u201d<br \/>\n<!-- SlashFilm_300x250_In_Post_2 -->Big, indeed. According to Holkenborg, the drum is \u201cfive feet in diameter\u2026And then it\u2019s like six and a half feet long,\u201d and it was delivered to him via a \u201cmassive truck.\u201d Once it arrived, Holkenborg ran into a problem. \u201cAnd it\u2019s like, \u2018How do we get this thing inside?\u2019 We couldn\u2019t,\u201d he said. \u201cSo I was able to roll it with six people into the garage. It barely fit under the garage door. And that\u2019s how we got it inside. So I sampled that thing extensively. And it sounds wonderful in that score.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>Godzilla vs. Kong<\/em> arrives in theaters and on HBO Max on\u00a0<strong>March 31, 2021<\/strong>.
