\n He didn\u2019t give a truck about his job anymore.<\/p>\n

A Michigan Amazon delivery driver quit mid-shift this week \u2014 ditching a truck full of packages behind.<\/p>\n

\u201cI quit amazon f\u2013k that driving s\u2013t i left the van on 12 mile and Southfield y\u2019all can have that bitch and it\u2019s full of gas wit the keys in the IGNITION,\u201d Derick Lancaster, 22, wrote in a stunning tweet Monday that had racked up more than 26,500 retweets by Thursday afternoon.<\/p>\n

Lancaster said that he was frustrated with the grueling work and long hours for barely minimum wage, but he that he regrets how he handled his rather unconventional resignation, local ABC affiliate WXYZ-TV reported.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was immature and irresponsible on my end. At the same time enough is enough,\u201d Lancaster told the station after abandoning his delivery van in a Detroit suburb.<\/p>\n

Amazon drivers across the country have long complained of poor working conditions, a ProPublica investigation revealed last year.<\/p>\n

The e-commerce giant also drew complaints from factory workers nationwide this year over their handling of the coronavirus pandemic.<\/p>\n

Lancaster said he would deliver more than 100 packages over the course of a 12-hour shift for about $15.50 an hour. He was constantly under pressure to deliver packages faster, he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was days I had to deliver 158, 212, and it just kept going up and up,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Missing his sister\u2019s birthday party was the final straw that primed Lancaster to quit.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe was real upset with me,\u201d he told the station. \u201cThere is no set schedule.\u201d<\/p>\n

Since his viral resignation, Lancaster has inspired both admiration and scorn online \u2014 viewed as a working-class hero to some and wildly irresponsible to others who criticized him for inviting people to take others\u2019 property.<\/p>\n

\u201cI can\u2019t imagine how selfish someone has to be to abandon a van full of other people\u2019s property,\u201d one person on Twitter<\/a> wrote. \u201cThis is not OK.\u201d<\/p>\n

But another added, \u201cThat\u2019s some funny s\u2013t though. Way to stick it to Jeff Bezos.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lancaster has kept his spirits high though, joking on Twitter about the press he\u2019s gotten and defending himself against backlash he\u2019s received.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhy is white people so mad at me ?\u201d Lancaster tweeted as he invoked the response to the Minneapolis police killing of George Floyd and Charleston, South Carolina church shooting in 2015.<\/p>\n

\u201c[Y]\u2019all wasn\u2019t mad when that officer was stepping on bro neck , i don\u2019t think y\u2019all was mad when that white n\u2014- shot up the church killing them black people but y\u2019all mad that a n\u2014- quit his job ?\u201d<\/p>\n

Amazon assured it was \u201ctaking app<\/a>ropriate action,\u201d but did not offer any elaboration.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis does not reflect the high standards we have for delivery partners,\u201d Amazon said in a statement.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are taking this matter seriously, and have investigated the matter and are taking appropriate action.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
