“#How to Pin a File or Folder to Your Chromebook\u2019s Taskbar”<\/strong><\/p>\n

If you own a Chromebook, you probably spend most of your time on cloud services. But every now and then, when you do need to access local folders or files, Chrome OS lets you pin files right on the bottom taskbar or \u201cShelf.\u201d<\/p>\n

At the time of writing, the \u201cHolding Space\u201d feature is only available as an optional and experimental Google Chrome flag.<\/p>\n

Warning:<\/strong> Google hides upcoming updates behind flags because they\u2019re still in the testing phase and not ready for a public rollout. While most of these are general<\/a>ly safe to try, there\u2019s a chance that some of them can negatively impact your browser\u2019s performance. So activate at your own risk.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

In our usage, though, we didn\u2019t face any snags on Chromebook with \u201cHolding Space.\u201d<\/p>\n

To enable \u201cHolding Space\u201d on your Chromebook, you need to switch on its corresponding flag first.<\/p>\n

Open Chrome and paste\u00a0chrome:\/\/flags\/#enable-holding-space<\/code>\u00a0into the address bar at the top of the browser.<\/p>\n

Click the \u201cDisabled\u201d dropdown and select \u201cEnabled.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hit the \u201cRestart\u201d button at the bottom of your screen to app<\/a>ly the flag.<\/p>\n

\"Reboot<\/p>\n

Once the Chrome web browser reboots, you will find a new, stack-like button in the bottom-right corner of your Chromebook\u2019s screen.<\/p>\n

\"Open<\/p>\n

By default, \u201cHolding Space\u201d allows you to quickly access your most recent screenshots and downloaded files.<\/p>\n

\"Holding<\/p>\n

To pin a file or a folder of your choice, open the \u201cFiles\u201d app on your Chromebook and visit your file\u2019s location. This will also work for the Play Store and Linux partitions on your Chromebook.<\/p>\n

Right-click the file or folder and select \u201cPin to Shelf\u201d from the dropdown menu.<\/p>\n

Click the Holding Space icon on your computer\u2019s shelf again to view your newly pinned items available at the top.<\/p>\n

\"Pin<\/p>\n

To unpin anything from Holding Space, all you need to do is hover your mouse or trackpad cursor over the file or folder and click the pin icon.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s a bunch of ways you can get more out of your Chromebook\u2019s taskbar. You can turn websites into apps and add them to the Shelf,\u00a0for instance.<\/p>\n
